It's not really a matter of opinion at this point. It was the worst foreign policy decision in modern times.

I was just watching a little more on the history of it; there was never even a meeting in the WH to make a final decision - to decide if war was the right thing to do. It just became this inevitability.

And they kept pushing even after their original "case" for war started to crumble.

Worst President Ever.

One thing I didn't realize until today is that for all of Saddam's faults, he kept Iran in line.

Now ten years later the latest US-imposed leader of Iraq is courting Iran and killing more of his ppl than ever.

We need to stay the hell away from crazed fundamentalists in other countries and worry about the crazed fundamentalists in our own country.

Oh I wouldn't go that far. Pierce and Buchanon were the worst in our history so far. GWB is the poster child of what happens when people blindly follow an ideologue who eschews critical thinking. I think GWB compares favorably to Warren G. Harding in that he was completely overwhelmed by the office and handicapped by corrupt cronies he appointed to high office. He also compares favorably to Calvin Cooledge in that his anti-government ideolgy lead to several catastrophes and an economic meltdown.

Having said that I'd still say that Nixon was the worst President in my life time though unlike GWB, Nixon has some substantial accomplisments. Like GWB he had some egregious fuck ups (Vietnam, price/wage controls, oil embargo, Watergate), though to be fair I would not say that Bush committed any overt criminal acts like Nixon did nor did he abuse power as badly as Nixon did. Nixon was certainly a vastly more able man than GWB (I know, that aint exactly setting the bar high but unlike GWB, Nixon was a truly talented and capable man.). Nixon was a boot straper who worked his way to prominence. He didn't ride his Daddy's coattails to prominence only to prove he was a third rate blue blood.

Who cares? Let's stay in the now and talk about the current president. He's a much bigger asshole. ;)
Maybe.....but he sure hasn't made one fuck up after the other like the previous occupant. In fact, he's done a pretty impressive job getting us out of the hole the previous incompetent asshole got use into.

Bush did not make the decision. He announced the decision made by Cheney and Rumsfeld and others.
I know a lot of his detractors argue that but it's simply not true. As an administrator and COC W was terribly incompetent but he was/is a very capable politician. He just got in over his head. The notion that Cheney and Rummy were his pupper master is pretty easy to refute.

part of the problem with 'crazed' fundamentalists in other countries, is that they want to come here or send others here to do crazed fundamentalist things

Where is the "too soon to tell" Option? Bush ushered in the Arab Spring, which is as glorious an accomplishment as any (not single-handedly mind you).

the arab spring is also turning into a mess that has lead to islamic fundamentalists being installed in top government positions...

oh well

I'll be consistent.....I believed the rantings of the Clinton Administration about Saddam and WMD......ranting that covered a time-frame from early 1996 and continued until Bush invaded.....I believed Clinton, Gore, Albright, Kerry, Hillary, and a score of others.

I believed the UN's resolutions against Saddam were valid, that were passed unanimously by the UN security council, unanimously ....dozens of resolutions, that told us of

Saddam's threat to his people, his neighbors, the US and the world in general.....his Nuclear, Bio and Chem. weapons development, etc....

I believe the foreign intelligence that ALL agreed Saddam was a clear and present danger, intell that spanned over 10 years......the UK, France, Germany, Italy, etc.

I believe they were telling the truth as they saw it......

In light of all that, I believe Bush did what was thought to be the right thing at the time, given the circumstances and given what was believed to be the truth.......

And thats from an IQ far above anything Howey and Thingy will ever achieve in their entire lives....

It's not too soon to tell. If the way that this war was decided on & sold ever becomes the gold standard for what we expect of our leaders, we're in serious trouble.

I knew the Bush hack & his #1 apologist would chime in, blaming everyone but him.
