One Boston terrorist dead and one to go. (UPDATE: Suspect Captured)

You guys are both missing the point. On day one, nobody knew anything but there was immediate speculation the bomber was Muslim and no speculation that the mailer was Muslim. Why so? That's all I want to know, why didn't anyone speculate the mailer was Muslim?

FB has nothing to do with anything because on day one we didn't even have a name, let alone knowledge about FB postings.

Because the marathon bombing had signs of being an Islamic terrorist type attack. The richin not so much. Am I off on this or missing something here?

Edit: It also reasons to me if you are anti-government you would attack a government related entity of some sort.

I remember a whole lot of speculation and desires for the bomber to be white guy.

They wanted it to be a white American and I'm going to surmise a born and raised white American.

I don't know what you wanted Cawacko, but what I didn't want was reactionary hate, revenge, war, violent anti-immigrant sentiment and legislation, violent anti-Muslim sentiment and action, patriot act style legislation, etc.

And cause I've lived in this country for a while, I know that's what I would get. Maybe you are new here. Now, it's a white american guy? A bunch of lefties make fun of teapartiers and we execute the murderer.

Big fucking difference.

To the best of my knowledge there are no previous incidents of Muslims mailing ricin, so I guess that is the reason.

A sampling of "Christian" bombings where the word "Christian" was never used to describe them. It's really tiresome to read all the Muslim hate (not from you) when foreigners do the bombing. It's never "Saudi bomber, Chechen bomber, Palestinian bomber, etc.", always "Muslim bomber." But if it's an American he's never ever described as a "Christian bomber." The link lists 23 of the worst bombings since the late 1800s. Only five were Muslim-related but the Muslim ones got the disproportionate amount of attention and hate.

My opinion is that people need to get a grip on their Muslim bigotry and look at these heinous acts simply as terrorism without automatically attaching religion to it.

— Jan. 17, 2011: A backpack bomb is placed along a Martin Luther King Day parade route in Spokane, Wash., meant to kill and injure participants in a civil rights march, but is found and disabled before it can explode. White supremacist Kevin Harpham is convicted and sentenced to 32 years in federal prison.

— Jan 22, 1998: Theodore Kaczynski pleads guilty in Sacramento, Calif., to being the Unabomber in return for a sentence of life in prison without parole. He's locked up in the federal Supermax prison in Colorado for killing three people and injuring 23 during a nationwide bombing spree between 1978 and 1995.

— Jan. 20, 1998: A bombing at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Ala., kills one guard and injures a nurse. Eric Robert Rudolph is suspected in the case.

— July 27, 1996: A bomb explodes at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta during the Summer Games, killing two people and injuring more than 100. Eric Robert Rudolph is arrested in 2003. He pleads guilty and is sentenced to life in prison.

— April 19, 1995: A car bomb parked outside the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City kills 168 people and injures more than 500. It is the deadliest U.S. bombing in 75 years. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols are convicted. McVeigh is executed in 2001 and Nichols is sentenced to life in prison.

Other than wanting the people caught I never gave much real thought to who I wanted to be the perpretraitors (sp).

What about the 7/7 bombings?

No American terrorist, ricin, bombing, whatever, gets his religion attached to the act. For instance, Eric Rudolph was connected with a very strict Christian sect (militant, racist, anti-Semitic) but he was never called a Christian bomber.

It does seem like the right doesn't really get the difference on this.

Anyone who commits this kind of atrocity is a nut, period. When there was all of the outcry about the guy in the AZ shooting being a "rightie", it was more to do w/ the rhetoric that came from fools like Palin and campaigns that used crosshairs to target incumbents that caused concern. It wasn't "well, this is a Tea Partier, so all Tea Partiers are like this."

When it's a Muslim, it DOES become "well, this is what Muslims do." We see an endless stream of threads citing the "religion of peace," and painting the entire religion w/ the brush created by a couple of lunatics. And those who subscribe to that faith really feel it, on a very pracitcal & threatening level.

On day one there was also speculation that the bomber was a tea party person or a right wing militia member.

My guess as to why no one suspected a Muslim for the mailer is that it doesn't fit the MO of what we have seen in the past. The letter terrorists to date have been white guys domestically (going on memory... don't quote me on this). Thus the mailer is likely being profiled as such. I know profiling is an evil word for many on the left, but since this is profiling white guys we should all be able to agree that it is ok in this case.

EXACTLY! Why is this so hard to understand?

I don't know what the insistence on using "Want" is about. I feel like I am talking to a couple of Rainmen.

I guess you have never given any thought to consequences then.
