My parents friends who went to Cal during the '60's all talk about how cheap it was but I've never heard any of them say it was free so that was my point of reference.

Dude.....don't take The Dude (aka Topspin) to seriously. He just likes to throw insults around like monkeys throw poop at the zoo. It's half the fun of posting on JPP. He's actually one of the more sane posters and you're not really a full fledged member of JPP till you've been flamed by The Dude.

Well a number of factors, cuts in both federal and State expenditures in education, expenential growth of administration and student services and the fact that any time they need money for a pet project and can't get the money elsewhere they can always go to the student/parent well and raise tuition.
