Do you have a Bug Out Bag?

Florida is not susceptible to large tsunami's, the Grand Bahama Bank protects us. Also I live on top of one of South Florida's very few large hills.

If a band of terrorists invade South Florida, having a can opener hidden in my closet aint going to be of any real help.

1. Actually, Florida would be completely devastated, that is anything less that 300' high and within 16 miles of the east coast.
2. As I said in my first post: "you're fucked if anything happens anyway."

You live in a city so don't worry Jarod, you're fucked if anything happens anyway. My guess you live close to the ocean which is really dumb, because most threats from the ocean happen with little warning.

No, I don't really have a bug-out bag. I probably should, and could put one together pretty fast either way. Where I live I'll have warning, most likely. My plan is to grab a coat, sleeping bag, inverter, guns, ammo, water and snacks, get in my Jeep and drive to my cabin in the mountains. All that stuff is stored close by anyway, so it doesn't really need to be in one bag, per se.

Your cabin should already be well equipped.

Preparedness.........10 pts.
Dissing Jarod...........8 pts.
Stupidity.................-20 pts.

It is, but it may take me some time to get there, traffic and all. But I've got several alternate routes, and 4WD...

Florida would be devastated, you are correct, IF a tsunami were to hit here, but that is not even slightly possible because we have a natural break between us and the open ocean. The Grand Bahama Bank is about 200 miles of water that is 6 feet deep.

I am still alive and have never even once gone hungry even after 6 hurricanes.

Since it has never happened it never will? Ok.

Look, if you don't want a Bug-Out bag, that is fine. Why bring up the topic? Or is it just to ridicule those who spend a few bucks to insure they will have an easier time if something does happen?

I did not say that because it has not happened, it wont. I said that because we have a huge natural breakwater about 57 miles from the coast that stretches for over 200 miles, it wont happen. I simply find it sad that corporations are using fear to make money off the simpleminded.

You don't seem to understand that when a wave approaches shallow water it simply increases in height and narrows in width. If it then hits deeper water then it decreases in height and increases in width. There isn't any energy loss unless it breaks. With a 6' deep stretch it may break and lose some energy, but it won't lose enough not to devastate Florida. The only thing that will stop it is about 16 miles of land.

The speed that this thing is predicted to travel is something close to the speed of sound, so you might not even hear it. If you happen to have the radio on you might have a few minutes. In that case I suggest that you get on the highest floor of whatever building that you are in, get into a hallway or closet, sit on the floor, put your head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye. LOL

So anyone who decides to spend a few bucks to put together an emergency kit is "simpleminded"? lol

Nice.

And corporations have been using fear to make money off people forever. Ever look at what people spend on insurance?

Jarod has it all covered so no need to worry about him. Something tells me though that if the shit hits the fan like a Katrina he will be the first in line demanding why the gobblement hasn't brought him water and crying that it isn't "fair" that his neighbor has a diesel generator and is humming along.

As a matter of clarification, there is a difference between a bug out bag and being prepared if something happens inside your home. A bug out bag has a specific purpose. Yes, we have bug out bags for our entire family and a bug out plan.

People like Jarod scoff because they either think that nothing can happen or that by preparing than that would put them in league with us "common folk". If there is one thing I have learned about lefties and that is that they are convinced of their own superiority. Nothing is more insulting to them than being linked in any way to the "common man". That is why they ridicule "double wide trailers", "GEDs" and "prepping". Those are things for "common folk" and lefties by nature of their self perceived superior beliefs are anything but common. Of course it invariably is lefties who are left with their hands out when the shit hits the fan, but that is a topic for another day.

physics was never your strong suit, was it. all that 'break' is going to do is reduce any tsunami by about half, so a 20 foot wall of water ends up at 10 feet, enough to take out miles of coastline.

Maybe for an itty-bitty tsunami as you described that would be true, but a mega-, traveling at the speed of sound, the energy reduction would be a lot less.

I have a generator and I have a well, so Ill have water and power. I am not against preparing.

i guess you fail at more than physics. you say you have a well, but what do you think is going to happen to that water with all the biohazard crap that sits around for a few days after the flooding and backwash?

The water from 45 feet down? It will be fresh.
