Voted4Reagan, I agree the Irish were discriminated against, particularly in the late 1800s and early 1900s. So were the Chinese. So were the people from Poland, Italy, etc. Our melting pot took awhile to melt everyone together.

Feel free to open a new thread to discuss that. But be careful not to confuse "Irish" with "Catholic". Seen any atheist presidents yet either? um, nope. At least you got one. and a vice president.

But when you walk down the street today, do people move to the other side because you're Irish? No - because you are "white".

This thread is about how black people, due to the color of their skin, regardless of nationality, have been judged, lynched, killed by white people.

So if you want to air your woes, please feel free to do so. But please keep it out of this thread. If you do it in this thread, you won't get a very warm reception.

And certainly, the ongoing bias in our country against whoever the newest immigrant is may be worth discussing; right now it's the hispanic people we're beating up on as the newest arrivals.

But that is different from what has gone on with black people. And this thread is about how black people, due to the color of their skin, regardless of nationality, have been judged, lynched, killed by white people.

Tekky... I will compliment you on a fair argument. BUT... I wont hesitate to say that I can name several people who would look at the situation today and be appalled by how people are reacting to this verdict.

Those people being:

George Washington Carver
Martin Luther King
Malcom X
Frederick Douglass
Thurgood Marshall
W.E.B. Du Bois
Booker T. Washington

And thousands more would disagree...

George Washington Carver was born a Slave and became one of the greatest scientists, inventors and Educators this country ever knew or has known.

It's what you do with YOURSELF that determines success... not what others do for you. Success is dependent on the individual.

This is a universal principle, not one specific to any singular race of people.
