Without the federal estate tax, those that inherit the estate would be inheriting up to 45% MORE in total....the step up basis only effects the person that inherits the property, not estate tax.

The not so rich that don't pay any fet, make out even better, they get the full total value of the estate plus the step up tax break on cap. gains...

Thats a mis-characterization of the truth comrade...This is a STATE tax benefit to boat buyers to raise revenue for the state of Fla....it has nothing to do with fed. tax law which is what we've been talking about for over 100 posts.....it has nothing to do with the tax brackets or total income or the wealth of anyone....it was not intended to help the rich,

and as you can see, its working to the advantage of the state, as was its intention
