What's so bad about what Donald Trump said?

I went back and read the Constitution and I see no clause that says "Congress shall pass no law restricting immigration based on religion, sexual orientation, race, creed or color"

It must be frustrating for them that FDR had the idea of protecting Americans first.

Do you think our counter terrorism officials are wrong in saying his comments are already having a negative effect with our Muslim allies in the region?

I'll give you a couple of reasons.

It's against the principles America was founded on and is most likely unconstitutional.

At the end of the day it's likely to make us more unsafe than it is to help. We rely on Muslim countries to help us fight ISIS. Most of our intelligence in the area comes from Muslims. You can't say we want/need your help while at the same time saying fvck you. Listen to what our counter intelligence agents are saying the negative effects his comments have already had.

The topper is when Trump says it would be enforced by immigration agents asking if people are Muslim.

What's unfortunate is we all lose here. Obama is too soft and uses this weak rhetoric which allows for someone like to Trump to demagogue all around. Not good for the country.

Obama is soft, apparently, you are another that needs to review his drone program.

That's a familiar pattern with the Trump heresies lol.

Basically, it boils down to a moratorium but everyone gets their PC panties in a wad over it instead of actually paying attention to what it really means.

Also, the tired 'it's against our values' objection is pretty weak when the first 'value' our leaders need to consider is protecting innocent Americans.

What it really means, he is playing to the wackos in his base, it means nothing more, The Donald can't even verbalize his plans, and he has no idea how long "till we figure this out" means. Immigrants aren't the problem Donald.

Tell me how his drone programs doesn't matter and all the bombing we have been doing of the ISIS troops?

You're missing the bigger picture of Obama's overall failures and his rhetoric. Deals like Iran. Him saying ISIS is the JV team when quite clearly are a serious threat. Him saying ISIS is contained then they bomb Paris. Saying we can't be attacked at home and then San Bernardino happens. Him not wanting to say Islamic terrorism.

You don't have to agree with me but I'm explaining why Trump holds the appeal he does. It's far bigger than Obama's drone program.

Deference? How are we showing deference to them? Where are we going to get our intelligence from going forward?

Oh, where does one start lol. Removing any reference to Islam from anti-terrorism training manuals lest someone get them idea radical Muslims are going by their holy book instead of blowing crap up because of climate change? Going to absurd lengths in not saying the 'I word' when talking about _______ terrorism?

Maybe it's time for a different approach.

You seems to believe we are the only ones who matter on the world stage, Obama and the USA are one of many players and commend him for being a part instead of the chest banging and rhetoric of the Bush administration, the Middle East needs to handle its ISIS problem while we make sure we don't have one at home. Our primary focus should be our borders and we just play a secondary part in the ISIS problem in the ME.

Trump's appeal is only to 12% of this nation, and the crazies like Micketto, Chopped Liver, ILA and those types. Trump talks out his ass a lot without knowing that the things he plans would never be approved by Congress, so unless he plans on becoming a dictator, his plans are ridiculous.

Ok, I made reference to that in my comment to Rana. But your proposed different approach is to alienate all those who we get our intelligence from and need to help us fight ISIS? Who are we going to turn to now, France?

The point of my comment was why Trump and his demagoguery have such an appeal in the U.S. and that is based on Obama's failures and weaknesses. Bush went too far one way and Obama has gone too far the opposite way in reverse.

Trump's popularity is based on ignorance and nothing more. Most people aren't fully aware of what Obama and his administration are doing to address ISIS, they just want the George Bush approach or the nuclear solution for the ME, anything short of that is perceived as weak by the simple minded.

When people say Obama's too soft on this issue I read into it that they want us to go to war... real, boots on the ground war, not just airstrikes.

Who's doing the figuring and how long is it expected to take?

It reminds me of how we keep detainees in Gitmo until we figure out what's going on, and we're still trying to "figure out what the hell is going on" almost fourteen years later.
