George Will leaving Republican Party

To each his own and I'm not going to lose any sleep over Will leaving but I definitely understand his feelings and frustrations. I'm watching my party turn into a whites only, blue collar dominated, nationalistic party that is going to have trouble winning any national elections going forward. Clearly some people like it. I don't happen to be one of them.

'This Is Not My Party': George Will Goes from GOP to Unaffiliated

Conservative columnist George Will told PJM he has officially left the Republican Party and urged conservatives not to support presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump even if it leads to a Democratic victory in the 2016 presidential election.

Will, who writes for the Washington Post, acknowledged it is a “little too late” for the Republican Party to find a replacement for Trump but had a message for Republican voters.

“Make sure he loses. Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House,” Will said during an interview after his speech at a Federalist Society luncheon.

Will said he changed his voter registration this month from Republican to “unaffiliated” in the state of Maryland.

“This is not my party,” Will said during his speech at the event.

He mentioned House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) endorsement of Trump as one of the factors that led him to leave the party.

Will, a Fox News contributor, said a “President Trump” with “no opposition” from a Republican-led Congress would be worse than a Hillary Clinton presidency with a Republican-led Congress.

Will did not say if he would vote for the Libertarian Party nominee, former Gov. Gary Johnson (R-N.M.), telling the crowd he does not know whether or not the Libertarian ticket is going to help or hurt Clinton.

lets say you believe the liberal propaganda and it was turning into that and couldnt win another election. Well the previous incarnation wasnt winning any national elections anytime soon.

You cant outfreebie the democrats. You need to compete with them by actually having a plan to provide jobs for the minorities.

It's not liberal propaganda to say a white only party can't win national elections.

R's can win but they have to dump the xenophobia and evangelical / fundamentalist religious right. Economically they have good arguments but they got left behind socially.

America is becoming more and more multicultural. There is no way to hold on to the past. The harder they cling to it the more of a minority party they will become.

Sure there is. Limit immigration. There is no law or rule saying we have to take every low educated, disease infested dirtbag from the rest of the world. I don't know how you think we benefit by doing so unless you hate America

You watch but don't do anything about it.

Perhaps if you and other republicans of good faith and good conscience had done something about it sooner you wouldn’t now be dealing with the likes of Trump.

its liberal propaganda to say there's a white only party out there somewhere.......

Liberals don’t need to engage in ‘propaganda,’ the facts and truth are there for all to see – including the fact that many republicans are leaving the party, or otherwise refusing to vote for Trump, and appropriately so.

Here is the thing - republicans have benefitted and perpetuated racism for the last 50 years with the southern strategy. They have always played on the fears of racist southern conservatives and used them as useful idiots towards their own goals of global hegemony and wars for money. Now that they aren't getting their way they all if a sudden have a conscience? All of a sudden they care about minority's feelings? Lmao...Make no mistake- George will, butthurt bill kristol, etc, arent having a crisis of conscience. they never had a a problem with the racial, homophobic policies in the past, their issue is one of control. They are the elite, the establishment, and what they say goes. They can't risk trump winning because that'll mean other upstarts could try to defy them. They want to make it abundantly clear to any any conservative that doesn't bow down before them that even if they do somehow manage to ride a wave of success and get the nomination against the establishments will, they will have no support and will lose. You will take your orders from the oligarchs or we will get a democrat to invade a country for us instead.

The only reason the GOP isn't more colorful is directly due to the dems destruction of our border laws coupled with "vote for me and everything's free" politicking.

Youd rather play the pragmatist and go along to get along?

I continue to believe that the don can only attract a minority in the republican party vote. That said, even the republican party represents only a small number of Americans anymore. And I also believe that if the conservatives had been victorious in the Revolutionary War that we'd all be speaking the Queen's English and coffee would not be our favorite beverage. We are a liberal founded country and even after all these years it appears that liberal democracy sustains.

Good, the more condescending beltway insider assholes like Will that leave either party is good for the country. I spaz out on Sunday morning political shows, particularly Meet The Press, where their round table discussions seem to be intended to have beltway insiders with history and journalism degrees and party hacks insult my intelligence.

Classical Liberal, aka a libertarian. The modern progressive statist liberal in no way represents ANY of our founders.

I'd argue that their economic policy only concerns the very wealthy and boils down to, what's good for us is what's good for the country.

Possibly your best post ever....next to the one on senior sex.

Without doubt Trump has used racism to push his..nationalism. Xenophobic is too strong, given America's ability to assimilate.
Trump walked back his Muslim ban to "only from terror states". Maybe that's Syria and Afghanistan? he doesn't say..
There is no denying his support is also part racist, but he didn't win the primarys all because of racism and xenophobia.
Not with huge majority of voters.

If only Clinton gave a damn about closing borders, and deportations of illegals -she'd blunt his message.
She'd rather not risk upsetting the Latino vote.
The more voters look at Clinton also the more they see past the friendly 60 second commercial facades. I won't list her many failures.

It's a real crappy crapshoot ,and the chances are excellent the country is gonna crap out with either of these characters
