More Troops to Afghan

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...no...not OK if Dubya was giving out exact entrance and exact times, either.

How quickly they forget. bush telegraphed exactly what he was going to do re: the surge. And, on the same day of the speech, ABC News announced that ninety advance troops from the 82nd Airborne Division had already arrived in Baghdad.

"Now let me explain the main elements of this effort: The Iraqi government will appoint a military commander and two deputy commanders for their capital. The Iraqi government will deploy Iraqi Army and National Police brigades across Baghdad's nine districts. When these forces are fully deployed, there will be 18 Iraqi Army and National Police brigades committed to this effort, along with local police. These Iraqi forces will operate from local police stations -- conducting patrols and setting up checkpoints, and going door-to-door to gain the trust of Baghdad residents.

This is a strong commitment. But for it to succeed, our commanders say the Iraqis will need our help. So America will change our strategy to help the Iraqis carry out their campaign to put down sectarian violence and bring security to the people of Baghdad. This will require increasing American force levels. So I've committed more than 20,000 additional American troops to Iraq. The vast majority of them -- five brigades -- will be deployed to Baghdad. These troops will work alongside Iraqi units and be embedded in their formations. Our troops will have a well-defined mission: to help Iraqis clear and secure neighborhoods, to help them protect the local population, and to help ensure that the Iraqi forces left behind are capable of providing the security that Baghdad needs...

...Our military forces in Anbar are killing and capturing al Qaeda leaders, and they are protecting the local population. Recently, local tribal leaders have begun to show their willingness to take on al Qaeda. And as a result, our commanders believe we have an opportunity to deal a serious blow to the terrorists. So I have given orders to increase American forces in Anbar Province by 4,000 troops. These troops will work with Iraqi and tribal forces to keep up the pressure on the terrorists. America's men and women in uniform took away al Qaeda's safe haven in Afghanistan -- and we will not allow them to re-establish it in Iraq...

...We're also taking other steps to bolster the security of Iraq and protect American interests in the Middle East. I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region. We will expand intelligence-sharing and deploy Patriot air defense systems to reassure our friends and allies. We will work with the governments of Turkey and Iraq to help them resolve problems along their border. And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region."

Shut the fuck up you warmonger shitstain shil for the Military Industrial Complex.

You ignorant fuck.

Nothing can be accomplished by the US in Afghanistan you flailing retard except further bankruptcy and loss of lives and limbs.

Last month you wete whining like a bitch over the debt.

Who the fuck do you think is paying for this you dumb cuck?

Fuck off and die, cuck fucker.
the ignorant peanut gallery chimes in.
We are already spending the money -how much will this "escalation" of like 400k troops cost? It can't be all that much - since you make the claim -you figure it out.

But the Big News is battlefield autonomy to the commanders.
They can go after targets at will, and they can go after networks like the Haqqani

It's EZ to sit there and bitch -not so EZ to provide an alternative.
A complete pull out would lead to fracturization or Taliban control / i.e. a terrorist state

Yup, it is sickening.
Literally putrid

Years of pounding Hillary and here he cheers this endless war...with a country which can never be conquered...the actual cause of the bankruptcy and dissolution of the USSR.

What a loser
we are not "conquering" Afghanistan. This is not a Soviet style invasion.
we've done the nationbuilding ( for what it's worth)- now we are shifting to counter-terrorism support roles

you don't know that.
The Northern alliance had a good shot at governing. at one time they threw the Taliban out of Kabul,
They lost control because we did not fully back them-putting in Karzai instead

No, you don't know that.
Fucking warmonger liar.

KILL YOURSELF

Shut up cuck.
We have wasted trillions there already.

PIECE OF SHIT.

idiot. not war is war. war is either effectively prosecuted or not.

Hillray voted for NATIONBUILDING and organized REGIME CHANGE in Iraq/Libya.

I would be OK with getting all the way out, but that would leave a vacuum ( as Trump said).
we really do not want to leave a terrorist state behind

This is the best way - small amount of troops in a support role to KILL TERRORISTS-
and trying much harder to get the regional players to step up

Link up lying shitstain.

Can the righties please stop praising the "surprise attack" thing?

Here's the deal. At times, a surprise attack IS the way to go. At other times, it is not- because it is strategically advantageous to let a population of the affected area know ahead of time, whether it's so innocents can evacuate, or help prepare for the fight, or any one of a # of advantageous outcomes that we aren't even privy to. In general, Presidents follow the lead of the military commanders on that. They don't just to "decide" to reveal info that may be classified.

What a loser
What are 4,000 more troops going to do that 140,000 couldn't do at a time when the Taliban was considerably weakened?

I remember how they applauded and supported the "surge" ... which bush described in detail.

not "withdrawal" Nimrod. I said "intervention" a zillion times
There is a huge canyon like difference from starting an intervention war to dealing with one thrust into your lap.

Try This:
instead of bird dogging me with trivial quibbles - tell us what was WRONG with Trump's speech and what you'd CHANGE.
++

I already told you it's the best policy speech i've ever heard on AfPak, It's what we should have done from the beginning. in and out. hit and run. Whack a Mole
But we also created the ANAF -we can't just leave them when they are really fighting to the death for their government/country.

You lie!

Link up lying shitstain.
link to what? A brain transplant for you? Do you see I write my opinions based on settled data
but link up to quote or expound?

It's called "counter-terrorism" to differentiate from "counterinsurgency" ( nationbuilding)
which if you had read more was used like 100x on this thread

I don't see any exact specific timeline here. It's the same as Trump saying that we're going to step measures in Afghanistan to get rid of ISIS terrorists. I'm sure they watched the speech, too. As you said earlier...no military specifics.
