ilmeade said on-air that a group called
Smash Racism DC (also as known Antfia DC) was behind the attack. Smash Racism DC's Twitter account posted the videos of the ambush, as well as Carlson, his brother, and his friend Neil Patel's home addresses to the Internet before having their account suspended by Twitter.
Carlson's wife, whom the host described as mostly apolitical, was the only person home at the time of the incident, though the couple has four young children together. After hearing the persistent banging on the their front door, Mrs. Carlson locked herself in the pantry and called 911, believing it was a home invasion.
My wife "is not very political," Carlson explained. "She's not engaged in this stuff. I'm not sure she knows who Antifa was. She didn't do anything wrong. Why are they screaming at her?"
Carlson's first remarks were concerning the good of the vast majority of the American people, who do not condone this sort of nasty behavior.
"For every masked lunatic in front of my house, there have been at least 100 people, some of whom I don't agree with politically, calling or sending texts of support and kindness. And it's just a reminder of what a really nice country it is," he told Kilmeade. "If you work in our business, you can lose sight of that."
The threatening behavior, said Carlson, "has a chilling effect on people's ability to speak and to think freely. That's the point. It's totalitarian in its intent. We should fight it."
"It wasn’t a protest. It was a threat," he clarified to The Washington Post on Thursday. "They weren’t protesting anything specific that I had said. They weren’t asking me to change anything. They weren’t protesting a policy or advocating for legislation. ... They were threatening me and my family and telling me to leave my own neighborhood in the city that I grew up in."
An anonymous Smash Racism DC "organizer" rationalized the attack against Carlson: "Tucker is a propagandist for the status quo and promotes fascist politics. He should be held accountable and forced to think about the affects his views has on other people," he said in a statement, adding, "Tucker's promotion of white supremacy has real world consequences and he knows this."
