I'm all for shutting down immigration, until we solve some overwhelming problems that we have now; because it's common knowledge that you can't really take care of someone else, until you take care of yourself.

When someone comes here legally to work, they are assigned an SS number and ID card. That card should be much like a PHOTO drivers license which is easy to create. It would be tied to a PHOTO online database anyone can look up that contains a picture of the worker and his proper SS information.

If they overstay their visas, the database comes up with a RED flag informing the employer the person is here illegally. They can detain or report the person immediately.

The irony of overstays is that we know where these people are because they are using their assigned SS number and still paying taxes. They could be picked up and deported tomorrow.

It would; but it is non-existent technology that we don't currently have at our disposal. Therefore, the enforceable one would have to do until that technology can be perfected.
