The simple fact is, the US spends far more on our military than all our potential adversaries combined. In fact, I'm not sure any nation in all of history has ever spent as much as we do, in terms of spending relative to its major adversaries. We are the first nation in history to be in an arm's race with ourselves.

I explained why we need more younger people. Ideally, those would be lower-skilled young people, so they're not effectively cutting in line in front of existing citizens. What you want is pressure from below to accelerate the career-progression escalator, not pressure from above or the middle to stall it. As for welfare, as I said, I'm open to ideas to limit access to welfare for these new arrivals.

No. As you now know (assuming you weren't so lazy as to neglect to confirm that what I said was correct), historically lower immigration rates correlate with better performance for liberal politicians (a correlation, by the way, that holds true abroad, too -- high-immigration periods always end up playgrounds for right-wing politicians who cater to xenophobic bigots). So, if it were all about votes, liberals would be in favor of greatly restricting immigration. But sometimes it's about what's best for the country and for the people... a political concept that is utterly alien to conservatives, for whom the ONLY thing that matters is acquiring more political power.

Ans. By flooding the job market in companies with less experienced workers all competing for the same promotions. As a result fewer get promoted so there is less demand for lower skilled workers and jobless goes up.
