More than one source inside the close-knit Somali community has confirmed that Ilhan Omar and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi are indeed brother and sister.

Rep. Omar, in a carefully crafted statement, has said that she is married "culturally" to Ahmed Hirsi, "the father of her three children" who appeared in her campaign literature. She said that she and Hirsi briefly separated and she then married a man "from the UK" named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

If Ilhan did marry her brother in 2009, there are a litany of legal implications.

There are only TWO people in the UK with the last name of Nur Said Elmi. Omar's sister Lelia and her brother Ahmed the man she married.

Well they must not be too confident in this story if they haven't been talking about it enough for part-time viewers to have come across it. Even after Benghazi was debunked, Fox still obsessed over it.

BTW I don't hate Muslims . I do dislike people that don't appreciate this country. And I really dislike people who abuse this country by lying and stealing from this country. I know this is a common line on the Far Right. "We don't hate all Muslims, we just hate the ones that hate America." But then why are there such double standards for Muslims? The KKK, the Russian government, and child-molesting priests don't represent all Christians, but Muslims can't build a Mosque near Ground Zero. Why? Why do a handful of Muslim terrorists represent all Muslims? Why is it ok for Israel to attack the entire population of Gaza because some Muslims attacked them? How come Omar is repeatedly asked if she condemns Muslim terrorism but Trump can openly praise Muslim dictators and murders without Republicans accusing him of supporting terrorism?

A number of baseless rumors have been made recently about my personal life and family. I will say it again here: they are absolutely false and ridiculous.That said, I will offer clarity and share a difficult part of my personal history that I did not consider relevant in the context of a political campaign, so that we can put these rumors to rest and return to what really matters: how we join together to build a more prosperous and equitable district and state.
In 2002, when I was 19 years old, Ahmed Hirsi (whose name before he received citizenship was Ahmed Aden), the father of my children and love of my life, and I, applied for a marriage license, but we never finalized the application and thus were never legally married.

In 2008, we decided to end our relationship in our faith tradition after reaching an impasse in our life together I entered into a relationship with a British citizen, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and married him legally in 2009. Our relationship ended in 2011 and we divorced in our faith tradition. After that, he moved home to England. I have yet to legally divorce Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, but am in the process of doing so. Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive.
