Hello Arks&sparka,
Right on. So glad to hear that is acceptable.
Fair point. What number per day dying is acceptable?
And THAT, astute poster, is the question of the season, now isn't it? I'm glad I don't have to answer it. The greater consensus of world leaders is that letting this thing run it's course would result in too much death. I reluctantly agree. This falls into the category of decisions society has to make when there are no good options. I sure wouldn't want to pick a number.
fair points. So what is the point which we give up our Constitution? It's rather dangerous flirting with concept right now when we have a president that can murder someone in broad daylight and none of his supporters would believe it.
Never. We can't give up on our Constitution. No matter how much it is attacked, eroded, damaged or weakened, we must always strive to protect and strengthen it. I think we've dropped the ball. We've got to pick it up and start making progress before the whistle is blown. I agree we have a dangerous president. Not the president we would like to have going into any crisis. And our system of checks and balances was just thwarted when we had an opportunity to right a wrong. Wish I had a dime for all the second thoughts being had out there now.
What are we throwing away to slow the inevitable?
We've only just begun to pay. This is when we have to get our priorities straight. We can't have it all. We have to decide what is the most important. Things we have taken for granted can no longer be assured. You asked what number of deaths is acceptable. Have you wondered how much dying there would be if we took that reasoning about flu comparisons to heart? What if we refused to shut things down? What if we let people continue to go to sports games, concerts and restaurants? I have heard that it could have been millions. I think those estimates are real. Could have been 5 or 6 million Americans.
We'll get some indicators to that question when this rolls through the refugee camps. They simply cannot 'shelter at home.' That's gonna be tragic.
Sounds to me like you've got a good rational mind. I've been expecting a surge of new posters here. I'm glad you found us, Arks&sparka. I've been here 2 years. I was told after I arrived I don't belong here. There are essentially no rules. People are free to blurt any callous remark they want. Why would a civil person want to wade into this mudpit? I'm here because I cherish anonymity and I don't like to be marketed to. I just like to talk about politics. That's why I am Poli - Talker. I'm not into insult contests, so I came up with my PIP to identify and filter out the trash talkers.
I've carved out my own niche here to become an accepted figure. I'm curious what brought you here, and the meaning of your handle. Is it a reference to Christianity? If so, you should know you're talking to an atheist. I hope that's OK. I do my best to respect the religious choices of others without compromising my own faith, which is basically just a faith in humanity to generally do more good than bad, to transcend over time. Is your foray into this place temporary? When things open back up again, will you be gone back to a fuller productive life?
I think this pandemic is bound to change our world, and a lot of individual habits and thinking, in ways we do not understand yet.
