The Black National Anthem

Owens is a former NFL player.

Let’s see a raise of hands—who knew there was a black national anthem? Me neither. But they’re going to play it on opening day in every NFL game. That is, if they don’t find a reason to call it off. Will probably depend on what Trump’s poll numbers are doing in August.

On the one hand I don’t know why I should care about it way or the other since they don’t show the National Anthem on TV anyway. And it’s just a song [hardly anyone will know the words to] so it’s like whatever.

But then I think of the messaging. Black National anthem. Doesn’t that imply black nationalism? There is no white national anthem—it’s just the National Anthem. Everyone sings it because we are One Nation Under God. THAT IS WHY WE SING IT.

Isn’t that kind of like...oh, what word am I looking for...divisive, that’s it. It’s divisive on its face.

I don’t want to hear another word about how Trump is dividing the country.

I do know of that anthem.... They use to play it occasionally before some HS track meets...but, really, it just wasn't the same...few recognized it, so there was a quick return to the National Anthem and the school fight song...Much more appropriate....

Im to the point I just put on my headphones and listen to "My Guitar Gently Weeps"

PS I like the part about being one nation -and this is black nationalism, -
leftover garbage from the black radical of the 60's who preached a black separatism

Right, on the one hand it’s a song like any other and if a school decides to play it before a track meet or whatever that’s fine.

But ‘black national anthem’? Nope. There’s only one national anthem either that we are no longer one nation.

Trump IS dividing the country.

By the way...Rex Tillerson was right...Trump is a fucking moron.

And so are the people who continue to support him.

How is he "dividing the country"? If you were to allow one person to define how you think about everyone in the entire country, that doesn't say very much for you, does it?

I’ve given up on their thought process. They don’t have one because they’re either being led by the nose or their visceral hatred of Trump has clouded their thinking so much they can’t see the obvious.

All I know is this country is being led down a very dark path and people need to wake up.

Lots of people have woken up. Many just aren’t sure what to do. Remember the majority of Americans aren’t activists. People are being fired for exercising their 1A and 2A rights. Thugs are allowed to go free.

CHAZ has been taken down but no word on their warlord. What happened to him?
 
Doesnt make any sense. If you have a BLACK national anthem, or a Hispanic national anthem, or White national anthem it just kinda takes the whole NATIONAL thing right out of it doesnt it. LOL ONE NATION UNDER GOD. Not several. This is just one more stupid thing in a forever growing line of stupid things....

it makes sense if you are trying to crack the culture into black and white.
I'm telling you I've seen all this before- black nationalists play on protesters for Floyd, and make it about
a black nation instead

I suspect/hope the silent majority is still a thing. People need to wake up and show up though.

and that's the problem. Suburban women dont like trump.
They want an emotive POTUS - Trump is old school leadership ,,etc,, Trump needs to hug them or something :rolleyes:

I am semi retired but lately not so much...LOL. Anyway,...I work with some younger people who know nothing of my music which kind of shocks me because Im really not all that old "56". Every day at work is basically a class on rock music circa late 60,s thru mid 80,s. Back when bands all had to actually play instruments and put it all together to make music . :) Been having a ball with it! Yesterday mornings class was about Springsteen's "The River" The assignment was to check out this video and report back. " HEY that guitar player looks like one of the crooks on " The Soprano's!" :laugh:
