Mississippi Running Out Of ICU Capacity

"DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — Mississippi’s state health officer says more mask mandates could be on the horizon as COVID-19 cases continue to climb.

The warning comes after numbers released Monday showed six major hospitals — including Baptist DeSoto — had no available ICU capacity.

“I do think we’re on the front end of something that could be bad,” state health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said."

More COVID-19 cases in Mississippi may mean mask mandates as ICU beds fill up, health official says

No problem it's all a hoax. One day it will just miraculously go away. 15 cases going to zero.

This was predicted last Spring when the RWNJs were screaming that COVID was only a problem in the Democrat shithole cities. Smaller cities and towns don't have the capacity to handle a large influx of casualties or illnesses.

Normally, rural areas don't have the same problems spreading disease due to lower density populations, but when they completely disregard standard CDC procedures and protest bars, strip joints and carnivals being closed, disease is more quickly spread leaving places like Mississippi with a capacity problem.

This article points out some major issues with poor states in the South when seeking to fight COVID-19.

Obviously Trump will let the states handle it themselves until the situation becomes desperate.

https://www.popsci.com/story/health/south-coronavirus-health-care/
...“Before any of this coronavirus came along, we were facing significant challenges in the health care area,” said Crawford, who is 72 and now lives in Jackson. Today, with the relentless advance of the disease known as COVID-19, Crawford worries about his state’s vulnerability—especially given that the population is generally older, poorer, less insured, and stricken with higher rates of chronic disease than urban hubs. Mississippi, which has the lowest life expectancy in the country, is one of 14 states that have not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act....

....While no corner of the country is likely to be untouched by COVID-19, some experts worry that the virus might leave a deadlier wake once it gathers strength in southern states. Early numbers are still low in the Deep South: Mississippi has about 250 cases and one death. Alabama has around 200 cases and no documented fatalities. Louisiana numbers are higher, at more than 1,000 infections and more than 30 deaths—though most so far are in and around New Orleans. But the mortality of coronavirus infection rises when patients have underlying health concerns.

One study in Wuhan, China, found that more than half the deaths occurred among those who had conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and coronary heart disease. Another study in Italy reported that upwards of 99 percent of deaths were among people with prior medical conditions. In the US, data already suggest that rural counties, especially those in the South, bear the highest death rates from lower respiratory infections.

Trump has lots of support here in rural America, if the yard signs and Trump flags compared to Biden's are any indication.

Why do you say "fuck you" to the backbone of America? Failed at what? Be specific.

That support is waning as more elderly and poor people become sick.

No doubt a few will choke their lives out at home still waving a Trump flag. Evolution in action.

Mississippi has the 7th highest number of deaths per million, over 1000 deaths for every million people.

That's more than one in every thousand Mississippians has died already, and the fall surge is just beginning to crank up.

Hence the difference between medical mitigation in a sick patient and those at home without any medical attention until the coroner looks at them.

Sad but true. Mississippi seems to be taking the Swedish approach, except Swedes were healthy and Mississippians are not. Tragic choice.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Sad but true. Mississippi seems to be taking the Swedish approach, except Swedes were healthy and Mississippians are not. Tragic choice.

The Swedes made an educated choice but failed to fully understand COVID-19 properties (no one does at this time). They assumed most people would survive the illness with minimal fuss and become immune. They aren't.

I'm curious about Trump's performance at his Town Hall Thursday. He was sweating a lot, rambled and ranted. While the pressures of being behind the election are certainly on his mind, I wonder how much of that sweat was due to the fact he's not as fit as he claims? What if he's being held together with Steroids and Dr. Feelgood injections?

I didn't bother to watch. I am so over Trump. I think finally the nation is moving that way also. It has been a wild 4 years as he has systematically trashed most of our government, and left damage that will take decades to repair, left the budget an absolute mess. America has made some blunders before; but allowing Trump anywhere near the national debt will have to go down as one of the biggest. And to think that, after we revolted from England over socially debilitating monarchy, to have it come to this is just sad.

We've got some work to do.

Me neither but when reports came out writing about Trump's hour of Flop Sweat, I was curious enough to skim through the video:

Anyone think Saturday Night Light will mention it? :)

Agreed on "work to do" but I strongly doubt Congress, even with the Democrats fully in charge, will get much done other than their own agenda.

Yup. Looked pretty sweaty and desperate. Nice to see somebody talk back to his BS for a change.

I didn't know her and didn't watch more than a few minutes of snippets, but Guthrie seemed to be doing a solid job as a journalist.

Yeah, that was good to see somebody calling him on his BS for a change. He acknowledged it, too. Flummoxed, at one point he said: "We should be on the same side." Really, what he meant was she was good and he wanted her talent on his side.

Usually Trump follows such offers by saying "I can make it worth your while" and a friendly pussy grab.

It is Mississippi. They never run out of beds for white people.
Bullshit. You're still living in the 1960s.

Pre-integration, they would have blatantly had beds for only white people. Today, they are more subtle about it, and make sure there are beds in white areas. There might be a few blacks who get the better treatment, but not many.

Republicans are not going to spend money on Blacks.

How dreadful. My acquaintance who got it back in the spring is still coughing like crazy and has recurring symptoms. For him it's the disease that never went away.

I'm hearing more and more stories like that. My former attorney and her family all got it during the summer. Her husband and teen daughter are okay, but she has possibly-permanent heart damage. Like your friend, months later she is still coughing and has chest pain upon exertion. She isn't even quite 50 years old yet.

As for the false claims that the virus is less lethal now, this is not true. It's a statistical artifact due to the fact that we are doing far, far more testing now than at the beginning of the pandemic when only those with symptoms were tested due to lack of test kits.

The subtleness is economic just like the Gentrification of cities. Hospitals have plenty of beds for those who can afford it. Although economic success for too many African-Americans is based on the impact of 60 year old Jim Crow laws, those 60 year old bigotries can't be totally blamed on the plight of poorer Americans today regardless of skin tone.

IMO, while racism certainly exists, all too often Democrats like to blame Southern whites for all racism in America when, in fact, it's spread across the entire USA. Mostly east of the Mississippi both North and South.
