ANOTHER Innocent Black Man Shot .. In His Own Driveway

it has not been proven to be racially motivated. apparently the young man turned around and yelled at the officer...this could have been taken as an attack during a stressful situation. not justifying the shooting, just saying you shouldn't jump to conclusion that race played a factor simply because of a person's skin color.

you go down that road and you defeat your entire equality premise and hope that racism ends in america. which btw, is doubtful it ever will. all races, all people have racists. no one is innocent

It is true I don't know the facts of the case, but this and the Oscar Grant case are very disturbing to me. I didn't read the link about the white man shot in his driveway because it doesn't apply to the thread and I don't have time.

I hope the cop goes to trial and he gets a fair trial. I hope if this was racially motivated and he did attempt to kill Robert Tolan that they lock him up for a long time... and let the word slip to some of the black inmates that he is an ex-cop convicted of attempting to kill a black man.

He was laying on the ground Yurt. He was laying on the ground and when the officer shoved his mother he turned his head and yelled at the officer to leave his mother alone. The officer promptly shot him while he was laying on the ground.

The cop that fired the shot should be in prison for life. The kid was in his own car, in front of his own house, having done nothing wrong and he ends up with a bullet in the chest for it.

His car, in front of his house, mother comes out of the house and confirms that it is his car, cop gives mother shit, kid defends his mom... kid gets shot in the chest.

You are right... probably not a race thing. They just happened to think the kid stole his own car and drove it to the house it was registered to.

The cops gun should not have ever made it out of his holster in this situation.

so because some lady comes out of the house and says its his car, that makes it his car? the way i read the facts was that the situation was hostile situation and the kids did not obey the cops. thats a big mistake. if they had simply got on the ground instead of continuing towards the house, and then turning to YELL at one of the officers none of this would have happened. and all we have from the article (black SPIN is the title of the newsource btw....eh em) is what the other kid said happened. without more, i do not see how you can make a judgment based on the facts presented.

does it look bad, sure. but all we have is information from a source that says it is black SPIN....geeeze, i can just imagine folks taking a source calling itself white spin or republican spin seriously....:rolleyes:

You're misinformed. The kids got on the ground as they were instructed. Robby Tolan was lying on the ground when he was shot. Remember, the bullet entered his chest and lodged in his liver. Consider the angle it would require? He had to be on the ground when he was shot. You're argument doesn't hold water.

The cop had to be standing above his head with the kid lying on the ground, or he had to be 10 feet tall and right in front of him pointing the gun down...

Tolan was then rushed to Ben Taub Hospital with injuries to his liver and his lung. He is now listed in fair condition.

it doesn't say the bullet lodged in his liver, it says injuries to his liver and lung. i got this from another source, which does indicate he "got" up, so i was wrong that they did not get on the ground, i assumed that when he "turned around" he was doing so standing....again, this source is unsure of the facts as well:

Robert "Robbie" Tolan and his cousin had just returned home from a nearby restaurant on December 31 at about 2 a.m., according to CBS affiliate KHOU. An officer, Sgt. Jeff Cotton, pulled into the driveway behind them.

Family members said the victim and his cousin were ordered to the ground. They reportedly complied to the officer's order. But when Tolan's mother and father came outside to question what was happening, the situation got a little heated.

According to Tolan's family, one of the officers shoved Tolan's mother against a wall.

"He told them not to shove his mother," said David Berg, attorney for the Tolan family.

Tolan reportedly "leaned" up and questioned the officer about what was going on.
