Banning military type assault weapons that can hold an expanded round magazine, isn't chipping away at your rights, you can own a weapon, just not those.

Why do teabaggers (www.teaparty.org) have the need for a weapon like that? Can't SHOOT?

Define "military type assault weapons" since the only military weapons I have are bolt action rifles and one semi-automatic pistol. The rest are all civilian manufacture for the civilian market.

Actually when you do some digging you can find the truth about "Mass Shootings", look at all the "Mass Shootings" WIKI lists, then go down and look at the details. Seems most of these mass shooting are not some person going out and buying a firearm and walking into a store or massage parlor and shooting up the place, the majority are either done by criminals/gangs or others that usually do not even legally own the firearm or do not care spit about the law.

That first sentence is the most repeated disingenuous line promoted by the gun lobby and anti-gov't, anti (anything they perceive as) liberal types and right wing media punditry. I say this because on one hand you have all these civilian/armchair weapons experts swearing that the anti-gun folk put too credit on the AR-15, as there are plenty more weapons better suited for hunting, mass shooting, etc.

But, when it's pointed out that the AR-15 is extremely popular, and the weapon of choice for the majority of mass shooters and anti-gov't protest yahoos (who can be spotted strapped with them at their protests and rallies sometimes), the response is "well, those deaths are statistically minuscule, so I'd take the risk rather than you take my gun".

That's f***ing sick in my book...pure sociopathic thinking. Or if you like, arrested development .... an adult telling a child they can't have that particular toy as it poses a danger to other children, point to a plethora of similar type toys, and the child throws a tantrum, NO, I WANT THAT ONE BECAUSE I WANT IT!

I'm a hard left progressive liberal who own firearms but still believes that
background checks, assault weapon bans, reasonable licensing requirements to carry concealed weapons in urban areas, and restrictions on open carry in inappropriate areas
are ALL reasonable and compliant with the 2nd Amendment.

I don't think that the 2nd Amendment was very well written.
Private ownership of appropriate firearms should NOT be primarily for the existence of psychotic private militias;
but I don't worship at the altar of our "perfect" constitution anyway.

Gun violence massacres have become as much a routine part of American life as overeating,
and while fewer people probably die from it than from overeating,
the number who do makes us the laughing stock of the civilized world.

We are globally unique, however, in having our gun rights be a constitutionally guaranteed feature of being a citizen in good standing.
This is simple fact that even the most extreme anti-gun people, people far more extreme than I in their ideas, cannot deny.

There are lots of other problems in this nation that can be addressed without running into constitutional argument.
Despite the arguments of morons, our constitution DOES NOT preclude legislation that it doesn't specifically prohibit.
Despite the arguments of morons, our government isn't restricted to doing only what the constitution directs it to do.

The gun violence is reprehensible, but our constitution seems to have inflicted it upon us, and our constitution is all but impossible to amend these days. .

We can get a National Health Service and abolish "right to work" laws WITHOUT running into constitutional roadblocks
except, maybe, for those constitutional provisions that make rural Neanderthals overrepresented in our government.

Old fashioned single action revolvers are cool and not a major factor in gun crime.

They really are useful for sport and even home defense, but you wouldn't choose such a weapon to actually commit a crime with which you expected to get away.

How many Americans die of suicide due to a single shot from a revolver? My aunt used a .38. One shot.
