The real reason Republicans want to sabotage the investigation into Jan. 6

This is going to turn into another impeach fiasco by the Democrats. It will reek of partisan politics. It will be carried out in a manner that leaves no confidence in the results. I'm betting Schiff will do much of it behind closed doors just as he did with the impeachments. I wouldn't be surprised if the two Republicans were shut out of some of the proceedings. It will just be another worthless train wreck of political posturing and will be one more black eye come 2022.

No, they would not be there if they could not be trusted, and they will be richly rewarded for their service to the Revolution.

Republicans are supporting beating on cops:

"Fanone voluntarily rushed to the Capitol with his partner when he heard about the attacks. As a result of his bravery that day, he suffered a traumatic brain injury and a heart attack. In a video that has now been shared widely, Hodges can be seen being crushed by the mob as he and his fellow officers sought to defend a narrow hallway leading to a Capitol entrance. "--Thompson

Nice try at changing the subject...

You ever notice how when the Left gets body slammed with facts on something their only resort is to start screaming insults at you...?

"I had hoped that such an investigation would be carried out by an independent commission composed of national security experts, like the panel created by Congress after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. However, once the House Republican leadership rejected — and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell filibustered — bipartisan legislation to establish such a commission, we in the House believed we had no choice but to establish a select committee. In a recent poll, 72 percent of Americans agree there is more we must learn about that day."

You won't respond to these facts, you pathetic coward.

The Democrats did that in the first impeachment hearings more than once. The Democrats couldn't trust that the Republicans would go along meekly with everything they were doing so, they shut them out of hearings.

Chairman Thompson:

"Many of the Jan. 6 rioters have stated in their court pleadings that they stormed the Capitol believing they were acting on behalf of, or even at the behest of, then-President Donald Trump. The protection of our democracy demands that we comprehensively investigate what drove Americans to riot and violently assault Capitol Police, Metropolitan Police and other law enforcement officers to access the inner sanctum of Congress and private offices of top congressional leaders, including the speaker of the House."

Republicans rejected an independent commission to investigate the attack on the Capitol.

It was predictable they would call the House select committee "partisan."

I guess I should not be disturbed right wingers repeat the lies.

So? Separate issue. The current committee is one set up by Democrats and Democrats alone now. That someone wrote an op ed in the WaPo, a paper that is for all intents an organ of the Democrat party really means nothing.

She was testifying on national TV before what was called the 9/11 Commission — officially the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. The moment was fraught with peril for her party as the Bush administration stood accused of being underprepared for the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Those who wonder why Republicans today are resisting the creation of a new independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 invasion of the U.S. Capitol might review the tape of that moment in 2004 for a potential insight. That's because the new commission plan has been advertised as being modeled on the 9/11 Commission, and Republicans have long memories.

As NPR points out, the 9/11 commission did the same thing this commission is very likely to do: Turn this into a partisan witch hunt where they call Republican "witnesses" for the sole purpose of pillorying them in public. There won't be any neutral "fact finding," but rather a series of attempts by Democrats to play "Gotcha" with those called. It will be a complete fiasco.

Yep, and the inquisition begins...

bingo. nothing I can add to that except a kudo for clarity. It was always about the narrative. Must serve the narrative
I don't really care about these "hearings" , but this thread seems to be way more heated than most. What is the worst possible outcome for republicans at the conclusion of these "hearings"? Seems to me it was a loose gathering of rabid Trump supporters that connected on social media , agreed on a time a place for a protest and it got out of control. Not much more than that.

Never in my life would I imagine conservatives supporting the violent overthrow of our government.

Never imagined conservatives would support murdering cops and beating on them.
