In point of fact, Obama has already broken that pledge. His increase in the federal excise tax on cigarettes took care of that. But it isn't stopping there. If anything, the White House, having already inhaled, now appears somewhat feverish on the subject of higher taxes.

The cap and trade legislation he backed that passed the U.S. House Friday will hit the wallets of most every American hard with what many folks would call higher taxes on energy. And now from inside the West Wing comes the word that Obama's much vaunted, much criticized public option healthcare reform will be paid for, at least in part, by higher taxes on the middle class.

Taxes WERE cut, Yurtie - for everyone making under $200K.

Every rightie on this board keeps making the claim that all Obama has been doing is raising taxes, but when pressed, all they can really come up with is the cigarette tax.

FACT: everyone under $200K (a.k.a. most Americans) has gotten a tax cut. That is why the TEA parties were so dumb; most of the people there were actually getting tax cuts.

when did this tax cut go in to effect? what legislation was written and signed that reduced taxes?
 
it's really nothing to brag about, like $15 a month. It's so freaking little most people don't realize their taxes are lower.

what taxes specifically...and has anyone realized a tax cut yet? if so, what is the amount? how has anyone paid less taxes at this point in time, you said it was past tense....those hopes have not been realized yet

i also mentioned the cap and trade...why did you ignore that?

I have tired of doing your research for you. Isn't there enough egg on your face?

The "tense" wasn't a big deal when you were claiming he raised taxes; it's ironic that everything you brought up is only proposed right now, and not passed.

Why are you holding me to a different standard than you're holding yourself to? Why not just admit that you are wrong? Obama cut taxes, most Americans have started to see that, and you weren't even aware of it. And now I'm supposed to do more research for you?

He generally spoke about them in the context of income taxes. You can find quotes that are more vague, but his specific proposals & speeches on the matter were clearly related to income taxes.

You can't admit you're wrong. He clearly lowered taxes, past tense, and you didn't even know about it, because you have tunnel vision for Obama "gotcha's"....

what you linked to was mostly tax credits, not tax cuts...have the cuts actually been implemented? IMO, with the cap and trade (which i believe passed so that is not future) and it looks like health care...those will outweigh any so called tax cuts....

i hope republicans will have the balls to do to Obama what dems did to Bush I on the no more taxes. The messiah deserves it.
