Walter Cronkite, who helped form mass opinion on many good causes like Civil Rights, has died.

President Obama said "His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night, and in an industry of icons, Walter set the standard by which all others have been judged, but Walter was always more than just an anchor."

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said "It's a great time to look back and think about someone who played such a major role in explaining what was going on".

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Mr. Cronkite "was the face and voice of American journalism for generations, he set the standard for news even today."

Cronkite's broadcasts were key to making the Vietnam war unpopular and he was instrumental in bringing down Nixon.

And that's the way is, 07/17/2009!

I thought reporters were supposed to report? *shrug*

He was not just a reporter. And he did just report the news and the facts. He was a man of great intergrity.

But he also did editorials. And they were always done as editorials. Those are the things they are talking about. His editorials were key in turning the country's opinion concerning Vietnam and in bringing Nixon down.

So in other words, he was biased. *shrug*

In other words, he reported the straight news. There was never any accusation of bias in his job as an anchorman. In fact, he was one of the most trusted men in America by both sides of the political divide.

Separate from that he also did editorials based on what he saw in his work as a news reporter.

Cronkite was a news anchor who made sure what he reported was accurate and unbiased. His integrity has not been criticized by anyone that I am aware of. If you have some evidence that his news reporting was biased, please post it.

Otherwise, continued berating of this great man is just you lying. If you disagree with his editorials then point out where he lied or was wrong.

Just because he spoke out against the travesty that was the Vietnam war and exposed Nixon as a crook in his editorials does not show bias in his work as an anchorman.

Never? LOL

Was Walter Cronkite the father of "liberal activist" news reporting?

The age where liberals took control of news reporting, where the primary news networks refused to allow a view point on the air unless it was consistent with the democratic party, was born during the View Nam war era.

By the time of WaterGate, NBC, CBS and ABC were every bit as "far-left" as today's NY Times, the current leader of activist newspapers.

During WaterGate, the public was inspired by the news media to crucify Nixon for his abuse of power, with liberal news reporters like Dan Rather, literally frothing at the mouth, to destroy Nixon, as if he was something between Hitler and Satan. Later, when the Clinton's abuse of power surpassed Nixon's exponentially, the very same news media, trivialized, stonewalled and spun the news to marginalize the Clinton's abuse of power, to claim the Clinton's only crime was a "BJ".

From the late 60's to the 90's, the primary TV news groups did not allow a dissenting view, where biased news reporting became an entitlement to liberals. How dare Rush parody liberals on the radio and how dare FOX News, to allow a viewpoint to be aired that wasn't filtered through the democratic party's guidelines for biased news reporting?

Once Cronkite retired, he openly embraced the far-left society, hanging out with the Kennedys and the entourage of liberals, socialists and communists in Cape Cod. Cronkite has been a long term activist, openly siding with the far-left throughout his retirement.

Will Cronkite be remembered for initiating the far-left's control of the media in the USA, which remains at 90%+ today?

What the neocons fail to grasp is the fact that intelligent well-educated well adjusted people are Progressive because it is the only moral and rational choice.

Have you just posted a question somebody asked on Yahoo Answers, SM?

You want to quote an anonymous poster on Yahoo Answers as proof Cronkite was biased in his reporting?

LOL!! That is too funny.

Everyone in the news media has applauded this man's integrity, and you want to quote an anonymous poster?

Cronkite's editorials and his news reporting were separate parts of his work. Was he biased in his editorials? Yes, but that is the point of an editorial, to present his educated opinion.

But his reporting was straight news.

His editorials on Vietnam and Nixon were shown to be the truth. Vietnam was a travesty and Nixon was a power-hungry, paranoid crook. And you claim his attacks on those two issues in his editorials is proof of his bias? I say its proof of his integrity and his desire to inform the american public.

Yes, and it was an accusation of biased reporting. Would you like to see other?

I would very much like to see more accusations of his biased reporting. But reporting bias in his editorials is a waste of space. Editorials never make any claim to being unbiased, that is their point.

First may WC rest in peace. I never got a chance to watch Cronkite read the news but I have read about the man. As far as biases it is interesting that a pro-Dem troll like DNC comes out so strongly in his favor if he truly was just 'neutral'. And I've read those who strongly disagree with his reporting on the Tet offensive claiming what he reported was false and the subsequent negative impact it had on the war effort. In his post news career/life he did come out as a liberal and support many liberal causes. Again I didn't see him live on air so I'm not passing judgement as to whether he was biased there or not.

Thats fair enough.

I did watch his news broadcasting. And my grandfather would only watch him. And my grandfather was a hardcore conservative.

You made an absolute statement: I simply proved you wrong. No need for you to get testy. *shrug*

If Adolf Hitler could be found saying ANYTHING that would support DNC's viewpoint, DNC would promote him.
If you're taking DNC's comments as anything but entertainment, you've got deeper problems then can be discussed here. :cof1:
