That is prescisly why I said we in the western tradition have been influenced by Christianity, even if we are not practicing christians.

We know right down to our bone marrow that the ethics of the New Testament are what a truly decent person should aspire too.

That is history living within us.

If I were born in East Asia, the Confucian version of virtue would be in my bone marrow, or the Buddhist eightfold path.

But, I was born in the west and it's history and social norms and have seeped into me

From what I gather, all it takes to be a Christian is to declare oneself as such.
All it takes for salvation, according to Protestants, is a declaration of faith. Perhaps a dunk in the pool, I'm not sure.
Jesus sacrificed sufficiently, they claim, to earn them all salvation.
Nothing they can do, apparently, would go towards earning it.

I won't deal with logic like this. Nor can I imagine anything as terrifying as being concious for eternity.
I find my secular leanings to be far more comforting.

But, yes, all the idiots who claim to be Christians are.
They claim to believe. They're not required to do good works. Fuck them.
