The Hypocrisy of the Dems in MA knows no bounds

Flash: 2004. John Kerry is running for President. Mitt Romney is Governor. In case Kerry is elected democrats, not wanting to give Republican governor Mitt Romney appointment powers in 2004, changed the statute to require a special election.

Today: Governor Deval L. Patrick, breaking his silence on the future of Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat, yesterday embraced Kennedy’s request that the governor be given the power to appoint someone to the seat until voters can choose a permanent successor in a special election.

“I’d like the Legislature to take up the bill quickly and get it to my desk and I will sign it,’’ Patrick said

Patrick, asked about the critique of hypocrisy yesterday, said he was not in office in 2004.

No shit Patrick... thanks for that update... but how about the hypocrisy of the Dems in the State legislature? If I were a voter in MA, I would be pissed.

Yeah, I would definitely pissed if a Republican governor proposed an immoral conservative senator radically opposed to good values and honesty (as all conservatives are).

MA really needs some checks and balances. we were ranked top 1 or 2 in every major category like education, health care, employment, etc.. when Romney was governor. Now that its all hard core dems with no checks its tax after tax after tax.. and sliding in many categories.

Checks and balances is retarded. In practice, there's a ton of checking, not much balancing, and the Republicans have the people by the balls.

I don't understand the "hypocrisy" charge. It seems to me that the Democrats are operating from the same principle now as they did then: protection of a Democratic senate seat.

I think it's a stupid thing to do but I don't think it is hypocrisy.

What categories?

The Republicans have people by the balls in Massachusetts?.....maybe there IS progress afoot......

There can be no progress whilst the forces of darkness are marching on America, annihlating all our progress, all our compassion, all our reform, and destroying our position as a world power. The Republican party needs to be banned. Conservatives need to be stripped of voting rights and deported, if possible.

It is NOT a Democratic senate seat.... It is a MA Senate seat. Constantly switching the manner in which a replacement is selected for the benefit of one party is where the hypocrisy lies. In 2004, they wanted the power in the hands of the voter. Now all of the sudden they want to take it back from the voter.

Actually the voters have the same exact power to elect a senator in six months as they used to have. The bill does nothing to effect the power of the voters. It's just the seat will be filled by someone instead of no one.

Massachusettes is 30th in taxes as a % of income, my state is 10th:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_tax_rates

Thanks Republicans.

"Note, however, that this table does not necessarily reflect the actual tax burdens borne directly by individual persons or businesses in a state. For example, the direct state tax burden on individuals in Alaska is far lower than the table would indicate. The state has no direct personal income tax and does not collect a sales tax at the state level, although it allows local governments to collect their own sales taxes. Alaska collects most of its revenue from corporate taxes on the oil and gas industry."

Do you even read what you post?

Fuck Massachussetts and fuck the people in that state. They deserve every shitty deal that the corrupt liberals in and from that state slap on them. I hope they end up like California.....bankrupt and drowning in debt.
