The great white hope

So it's ok to have a black President be the great hope for blacks, but not ok for whites to have a hope for anyone who may be white.?

was it really? it's a phrase that was coined in that respect all those years ago, but has the meaning behind the phrase evolved, or has it always stayed a racist remark?

I think in the context it was used, it is pretty easy to read it as a racist remark that closely parallels the original meaning, and the congresswoman's attempt to back away from it was extremely weak.

a simple google search of the phrase shows that all the links say it is no longer racist.....nice try libs....but fail

i didn't watch any video, so don't have the context, but first glance tells me that anyone could have uttered this phrase with absolutely no racial tinge to it at all, and only when someone got 'offended', did she feel the need to 'backpedal'. I could be entirely wrong, but I doubt it.

actually, what pisses me off is that the left wing sold themselves out to a chicago politician. I'd have rather had hillary, or even howard dean, but NOT a chicago politician.
