How media coverage drove Biden’s political plunge

The mainstream media has played a huge, underappreciated role in President Biden’s declining support over the past year. Its flawed coverage model of politics and government is bad for more than just Biden — it results in a distorted national discourse that weakens our democracy. The media needs to find a different way to cover Washington.

And in my view, media coverage is a big factor in those warped polling results. Media commitment to “equal” coverage of both parties has resulted in a year and a half of coverage since Biden entered office that implies both parties are similarly bad, as if the surge of inflation and some of Biden’s policy mistakes rival a Republican Party that is actively undermining democracy in numerous ways, such as continuing to voice baseless claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, passing measures making it harder to vote, and gerrymandering so aggressively in states such as Wisconsin that elections are effectively meaningless.

Yes, I am calling for the media to cover Biden more positively. Not in the sense of declaring Biden a better man than Trump (though that is obviously true). Instead, political coverage should be grounded in highlighting the wide range of our problems and assessing whether politicians and parties are working toward credible solutions. Such a model would still produce a lot of stories about surging inflation, Afghanistan and other issues where Biden’s policies haven’t worked. But there would also be more stories about other issues important to Americans, even if they were going well under Biden (like the huge job growth during his tenure). Ideally, on every issue, the media would compare the Republican and Democratic solutions. You can see how this model might help Biden — but the bigger benefit would be to readers.

HAHAHAHA. You're nuts. No president has ever had a more supportive press than pedodent biden has. They never talk about his proven child molesting or his obvious dementia.

Do you really believe that drivel?

If Donald Trump Jr. did what Hunter Biden has done--and what we factually know about it--do you think for a moment that the MSM would have all but ignored that story? If Trump bumbled through speech after speech, or Pence laughed and garbled his way through speeches and interviews, do you really, seriously believe the MSM wouldn't have pilloried both non-stop for weeks each time it happened?

The MSM has run non-stop cover for the Joke administration from non-reporting all sorts of stuff Joke is doing administratively to ignoring issues within the administration. That they cover something like Bagman at all is due to the fact it's so blatant and massive that they can't sweep it under the rug because there's no rug big enough to cover it up.

Even in the article you cite, the author can't help but circle back to the few issues remaining to the Left and Democrats that they get some minor traction on--mostly among their base and no one else--like voter fraud or the lack thereof in the 2020 presidential election. Gerrymandering is going on by both parties and some of the most egregious has been by Democrats (see Illinois and New York for examples of that). That's the pot calling the kettle black.

In that article, the WaPo simply can no longer run cover for a Democrat administration so fucked up that everything they do ends up a major policy or political disaster. They can no longer ignore that the Biden Ship-of-State is capsizing and sinking, it's just too obvious.

If the media cant find a way to pretend Biden is not a major fuck up then perhaps you need to accept the fact that Biden is a major fuck up who has badly damaged this country as well as most of the world.

Takes some doing to come out worse than Carter.

Yet, you support Trump's violent coup on the Capitol killing 5 people.

For example: Inflation is happening around the world. Yet Biden is blamed for causing inflation.

And to some degree his is responsible since the US economy is large enough, and the US dollar the underpinning of many other currencies, that if he causes inflation at home it spreads abroad as well.

How did Biden cause inflation?

One obvious one is the reduction in oil drilling and exploration. Another would be imposing new rules on the trucking and railroad industries raising their costs. There's plenty of others, but those two have broad impact on the economy across most of it.
