How media coverage drove Biden’s political plunge

It's just a knee-jerk for righties at this point to pretend that the MSM always props up Dems.

They have definitely contributed to Biden's poor poll #'s. There has been a lot of great economic news up until recently, particularly on the jobs front - but it's all inflation, all the time.

Biden hasn't been great, but it takes time to clean up the mess that Republicans create.

House hearings show Trump was organizing a coup. But! But! Polls say Biden not popular!!

I say this with all due respect because I enjoy our conversations but you have serious partisan binders on here.

Go back to your posts last fall when the market was up and GDP growth was high. You were celebrating Biden and the Democrats saying they had cleaned up the Republicans mess etc. Now that things have flipped in 2022 all of sudden (almost) none of it is Biden's or the Democrats fault and it's back to everything being the fault of Republicans. If you're having a group chat with a bunch of fellow Democrats you'll probably get a fair number of thanks/likes but not so much when you get out of the partisan bubble.

Yes the job numbers have been pretty good this year but we're about to have two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, we hit bear market territory in equities and we have 40 year high in inflation. Yet this idea that somehow the general public wouldn't know or really care about all this if the media would just stop talking about it isn't reality. People talk about inflation a lot because it's unavoidable. You see it at the pump, you see it in the super market etc. Additionally, it affects future decisions consumers and businesses make. So yes, it is going to be talked about a lot. It's the major impetus behind all the Fed's decisions. There is zero chance the media isn't going to cover it even if you wish them not to for partisan reasons.

Here's a pretty tried and true reality of politics - the President (and the party in power) gets both (often too much) credit and blame for what happens on their watch. Right now this stuff is all happening under Biden while Democrats control Congress.

blah blah blah Biden caused inflation

The mainstream media has played a huge, underappreciated role in President Biden’s declining support over the past year. Its flawed coverage model of politics and government is bad for more than just Biden — it results in a distorted national discourse that weakens our democracy. The media needs to find a different way to cover Washington.

And in my view, media coverage is a big factor in those warped polling results. Media commitment to “equal” coverage of both parties has resulted in a year and a half of coverage since Biden entered office that implies both parties are similarly bad, as if the surge of inflation and some of Biden’s policy mistakes rival a Republican Party that is actively undermining democracy in numerous ways, such as continuing to voice baseless claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, passing measures making it harder to vote, and gerrymandering so aggressively in states such as Wisconsin that elections are effectively meaningless.

I mean,...I guess they could just LIE and cover for him all the time like they do most of the time anyway. Not report his MANY blunders. Is that what u want?

Stoney, what about Trump's lies and blunders????

Bullshit!
Biden is getting bad reviews for sinking the economy with reckless over-regulation of the oil industry,
Being incapable of resolving a baby food shortage,
Handing out money like it was free candy,
Drawing down the strategic reserve and selling it to China of all places
He is also guilty of being a puppy dog to the heinous monster Klaus Shwab.

Next will come food shortages in the US.
He is destroying the Democratic party worse than any GOP operative ever dreamed of.

Did you vote for him?

Biden and his policies sunk his poll numbers and he didn't start receiving negative coverage until his poll numbers were news worthy in and of themselves. Media could no longer ignore what America was seeing unless they wanted to become even less trusted and more irrelevant.

Inflation higher than wage growth doesn't make people happy and Biden's great economy had zero growth last quarter. This quarter looks just as bad which means we are in a recession.

Economy was bouncing back nicely after democrat governors ended their covid ( political) shutdowns. Biden policies are destroying this natural bounce.

Biden is only getting bad reviews from Democrats because of the Bernie Factor.

The Bernie crowd is upset at Biden when they know damn well the problem lies with Sinema and Manchin.

That doesn't mean they will be voting for Donald Trump or any of his RETARDS in 2020!

Biden has fucked up everything he touches and even democrats are seeing that.

I don't see Bernie having anything at all to do with it.

I read the NY Times and Washington Post daily. Both papers frequently use "weak President" in any story about him. I think their coverage is bad.
This is the first time the Post published an opinion column about this bias.

Bernie don't have anything to do with it. Thanks!

It's all going to come down to executive action.

Biden has tried to work with Manchin, but he needs to give up with him and start dishing out XO's!

And let's see how well Manchin likes that!
