Yes, but when has a NATO country ever militarily invaded Russia, a soviet republic , or a former soviet republic? NATO existed in the past to protect Western democracies from the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the S.U. those little Baltic countries and satellite countries wanted , and it now looks like needed , protection from Russian imperialism.
Russian imperialism is a matter of national pride, it’s in their DNA. That is incompatible with countries that want to be autonomous.
As far as Moldova, you don’t think Putin wouldn’t consider taking it after what he thought would be an easy takeover of Ukraine? Don’t be naïve.
I agree with you,the West miscalculated Putin.
Like I said, had NATO not expanded we’ll never know what Putin would have done militarily. But you can be sure the kremlin would have fomented unrest by Russian nationalists in those former Soviet republics. And then what?
Anyway, we now have a war . It is what it is. No going back by either side.

if my chess pieces are around my king, they are on defense, If my pieces are on your side of the board
they become "aggressive". NATO expansion into border states with Russia is an aggressive posture.

I keep hearing this Russian Imperium is what drives Putin - he may want to be another Catherine the Great
( who said Russia must expand or die) but that's not what drives him.

Ukraine is unique in that it's closely ties to Russia (language/Slavic).
But mostly since we decided to make Ukraine a defacto NATO state, that was a step too far from the west

The HIMARS are a problem that Russia has no answer for. If the US decides to give them the 300 km HIMARS that problem will only get worse for Russia.

not going to get them,and Ukraine has already hit targets inside Russia (done strike?) Biden isn't going to allow this war to expand because even he understands that means we are warring against Russia proper,not just it's troops
