Russian armor closes in on ' fortress ' Kyiv.

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania are NATO countries on Russia's borders, and just two months ago Putin meekly accepted that Finland and it's 800 mile long border with Russia is joining NATO.

Irrelevant to the Ukraine situation.

They said that Ukraine was the red line. NATO doesn't listen.

The Kremlin issued dire warnings if Sweden and Finland dared join NATO, but Putin meekly backed down when the Nordic countries went ahead and did it anyway.

Nobody should believe Putin's bluster and empty threats at this point. The fact that Putin has destroyed the capabilities of the Russian military gives him even less credibility to make credible threats.

Putin must be worrying about a coup and his head on a spike at the main gate of the Kremlin. LOL

Not much. They will LOOK like something but thats about it. Its not 1912 anymore. Yeah, great idea,....engage armored columns with a little gas in a coke bottle,...that'll show em...

I bet you're not laughing and giggling anymore about the capability and tenacity of Ukranians to defend their sovereign land against invaders.

The more bodybags being shipped home to Mother Russia, the more Russians who'll start to agree.

Ideally, the most important result of Putin's war is that Russia will pay such of heavy price for unprovoked aggression, that authoritarian states in the future will be deterred from invading UN member states.

or any states. War is primitive and destructive...as Putin reminding all the nations of the world.

In the modern world, it's easier just to buy them out. LOL

Despite all of China's saber rattlin', they know war would cost them more than they could ever pay. They have the patience to just buy out Taiwan.

Putin is insane to have gone this far. If he'd just chipped off the Separatist area, he'd be fine. Instead, he dug himself a hole and leaped in headfirst.

No need to listen anymore. Russia's army has been eunuched.

As long as Putin is still in charge, the Russians have a major problem.

The best solution for this mess remains the same stated shortly after it began; the Russian people need to depose Putin, pull their troops home and plead a mea culpa to the modern nations with sanctions on them.

It seems like Putin is relying heavily on contract troops drawn from the autonomous republics, and I'm not convinced many Chechens, Buryats, Tatars, Caucasians are willing to die for the abstract ideal of orthodox Russian nationalism and imperialism.

Agreed. Hiring mercs is an interesting move that is certain to make his own military leaders and his own supporters question the wisdom of continuing the war in Ukraine.

He didn't commit to instant retaliation . Nobody expected him to. You're simply looking for a new tune for your bugle.

Putin will have to rebuild his military capabilities before he can risk taking on Finland. He may not be around that long.

He could try another hit on Georgia though. Plenty of nazis there, eh?

Putin spent so many years using the Russian military to beat up on Chechen militias, Syrian rebels, poorly trained Georgian conscripts that he had people like Moon, Dukkha, and Hawkeye10 convinced that the Russian armed forces were a juggernaut that would easily roll Into Kyiv in a matter of days.

Putin wasn't expecting the US to turn it into a proxy war. Now the evaluations have different criteria .
So far the US has fought it with Ukrainian blood.

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.

Horseshit.

Anyone who was reading the newspapers knew NATO has been training Ukrainian forces for eight years, and that western military assistance would flow into Ukraine if they were attacked.

Any competent and aware adult would have entered that Into their risk assessment calculations before sending tanks across the border.

What actually happened is that you, Hawkeye10, and Putin ended up believing Kremlin propaganda about the supposed capabilities of the Russian military.

It's funny that you are still begging people to take the empty threats of Vlad Putin and his decimated army seriously.
