I believe that if they have the money to lobby for deregulation and know safety standards are needed but are just too cheap to implement them, they need to pay.

Everything I've read now says the problem was a mechanical one with one of the cars on the train with a failed axle. The train crew did apply the emergency brakes but the failure of that car's axle mechanically caused the derailment. In other words, regulatory changes in emergency braking would have made zero difference here as the failure was mechanical within one of the cars making up the train.

Horrible management
Billing Specialist (Former Employee) - Chicago, IL - July 15, 2022
No support from management. The manager didn't share the basics with the group. No communication with the upper management whatsoever. Salaries were decent. Location was great. Per general very stressful place of work that could actually be nice but the management didn't care too much about the employees.

Your coworkers are cool most of them but the white hats are a handful to deal with
Welder/Fabricator (Former Employee) - Hearne, TX - April 20, 2022
Upper management sucks if your not in the circle you will be treated just like that…. For example when the first snow storm hit Texas they expected the lower workers to risk their life and drive on those icy roads but they didn’t have to go in and on you had to take the points
Pros
Good pay and benefits
Cons
Everything else

The Norfolk Southern Railway (reporting mark NS) is a Class I freight railroad in the United States formed in 1982 with the merger of Norfolk and Western Railway and Southern Railway. With headquarters in Atlanta, the company operates 19,420 route miles (31,250 km) in 22 eastern states, the District of Columbia,[2] and has rights in Canada over the Albany to Montréal route of the Canadian Pacific Railway.[3][4] NS is responsible for maintaining 28,400 miles (45,700 km), with the remainder being operated under trackage rights from other parties responsible for maintenance.[5] Intermodal containers and trailers are the most common commodity type carried by NS, which have grown as coal business has declined throughout the 21st century; coal was formerly the largest source of traffic. The railway offers the largest intermodal rail network in eastern North America. NS was also the pioneer of Roadrailer service. Norfolk Southern and its chief competitor, CSX Transportation, have a duopoly on the transcontinental freight rail lines in the Eastern United States.

Biden has an extraordinarily full plate as it is.

How much can you expect out of the man, especially knowing the opposition he'd face even if he did try to push something through?

Sometimes people in positions of authority have to prioritize.

Spend their time on things they can accomplish and not waste it on things they know are losing battles.

I'm not saying Biden's not done a lot of good things.

I agree both parties are worthless in this, but the immediate reason it's a disaster is the EPA and NTSB screwed the pooch and set the fire. More regulations won't fix stupid. The alphabet government agencies have no lock on the 'best and brightest.' Often their "experts" are anything but that.

Regulations requiring an upgrade to the train's braking system would have prevented the Ohio disaster.

You’re right, I wonder if that will change? A lot of spills or fires go unreported, nationally, but this has stayed in the headlines, so they can’t ignore it.

I suspect it will now. I wonder if the railroad company will be required to pay up for the damage caused by the disaster? Or have they lobbied like the gun industry to be immune from liability?

Which corporation failed to properly maintain the equipment that failed

That’s what we need to know

Then charge them for the ENTIRE fix

There is one that said it was ball bearings. I always wait for the report.

Now that's great. Yup - there is no escaping the misery caused by democraps and their brainless leader Pedo Joe Biden.

My point is, and was, which you missed, is that this accident could still have happened. What turned it into a disaster wasn't the accident, but the government response as to how to handle it and mitigate the damage. Turning the site into a giant chemical burn pit was a really stupid and shitty idea.

Sure looks that way. They CHOSE to burn all these tons and tons of dangerous chemicals !!!
