What is woke about the lil mermaid?

So far, the movie is tanking at the boxoffice, Einstooge.

If it was such an awesome smart business move on their part, why is it looking like they'll be lucky to break even?

Dumbass.

You continue to show off your stupidity.

Does every movie pandering to the majority succeed and make money? Does one failing mean they should make no movies to the majority?

Again the point you are too stupid to understand is simply that businesses owned by people who are not you, have a right to make strawberry icecream even if you and the majority would rather have chocolate or vanilla. They have the right to make all sorts or flavors including ones that might fail.

For you to stand on the outside, and cry and cry and cry, 'why are they pandering to others.... for a hundred years it was all about people like me (vanilla and chocolate) and that is the way it needs to always be', is the height of ignorance.

If a business wants to try to cater to minority products, sold to minority populations they have every right to try.

Someone here called the new Disney remake of the little mermaid woke.

I asked what’s woke about it and did not get an answer so I am asking again

What is woke about Disney’s remake of the little mermaid?

So do you have your answer...the one you wanted... now? .

Sounds like possibly your panties and bra are too tight.

Maybe you should start buying your lingerie in the "big girls" section.

I have heard a robust discussion about it.

The responses are all over the place, no consensus from the anti woke crowd.

It seems to me some people are upset because a remake did not follow the original closely enough.
Some are upset because they believe Disney's motive was racial inclusion when they chose a black actress.
Some people simply feel mermaids cant/shouldn't be black.

I still do not know what "Woke" means. I still believe it is an intentionally vague word useful to politicians who want to appeal to racists without openly admitting to racism.

Have you seen both if you have the differences and the reasons behind then are apparent.... the Rewritten version is meant to appeal to those who were offended by the animated version...

I have not seen the new one.

I've read about the differences.

I do not care if Disney chose to redo a movie because they wanted to appeal to a group that was offended, it might have been a good business decision. I do not know or care, as a public company they have a legal duty to do what they believe is best for the bottom line.

I usually enjoy remakes because the different viewpoints and meanings are very interesting to me.

WOKE is a catch word used by right wingers,to scare their sheep.

Looks like it worked on some people. How sad.

What a couple of stupid comments.

Does it occur to either of you brainiacs that the same claim can be made about you, re: the MAGA policies and agenda?

And for much better reason.

I'll admit that MAGA scares me given how close they came to violently taking over our government and nullifying the results of a legitimate election.

But nobody, or at least not me, is "scared" of any silly ass woke dipshits.

Annoyed by? Yes.

Disgusted by? Certainly.

Sick and tired of hearing about? Absolutely.

But to resort to lashing out with cheesy put downs like saying people who don't drink the woke Kool Aid are "scared" is what is really sad.

Woke people are too ridiculous to be scared of.

So you just basically said that you understand why it's considered woke...it was made to appeal to specific protected groups... what might have been considered insulting to the sensitive was changed...How is that "legal duty"? Now that is a very woke attitude...;) you'll be able to stream it pretty soon perhaps you'll see better what people are talking about... if you're a fan of the original animated ending do a comparison... what's your favorite remake of a classic? I know you mentioned theWiz... very well done and appropriately renamed...

You do not believe movies have been made to appeal to specific "protected" groups since the start of movies? Silly.

If making a movie because some consumer wants it a certain way is "woke", I am okay with "woke", I believe in capitalism. I do not have to see it if I want to remember the original.

I particularly enjoyed 3:10 to Yuma, The Bad News Bears, Annie (Remade twice), The Karate Kid (gender swap), Aladdin, Parent Swap, (One of my favorites) Brewster's Millions (Changed a white Main Character to a Richard Pryor), Freaky Friday (Remade 5 times, lots of gender swaps.) . There are a LOT MORE.
