What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Am I to assume that the original version[The Little Mermaid] was widely seen?
I don't know a soul who's seen it.
My kids liked children's programming on PBS back in the day, but their cinematic tastes ran closer to ours.
I guess that we didn't shelter them too much where it came to film.

Look it up, the board of directors of a public company has a legal duty to do what ever is most likely (if its legal) to take whatever actions will make the company the most money, without other considerations.

If a company remaking a movie to appeal to a specific group is woke, I am fine with woke. Its really none of my business and I think people/companies should be free to makes movies for whatever reason they chose, and I am not required to see the movie if I do not want to see it.

I dislike violent movies and think in some ways they can be harmful to society, but I think its okay to make them if you want.

Before they stole woke from black people, they had many committee meetings that decided to change creation science to intelligent design.

Movies have always been made 1) to make money and 2) to attract certain demographics. Remember all the war movies that came out during and after World War II? They were huge hits and made stars of actors like John Wayne. Conversely, the Vietnam War was unpopular at home, so most of the movies about it were dark and negative, lacking the hero soldiers and good-guys-winning of their predecessors.

The remake of The Little Mermaid is upsetting only the racists. Otherwise, it's doing very well at the box office. Toxic TOP is distraught because she's a racist herself. If they remade Avatar with green people instead of blue, she wouldn't bat a crossed eye.

They should have left depictions of Jesus as the blonde fair skinned blue eyed man I remember from my youth, rather than cave to woke attempts to make him a swarthy, olive skinned Palestinian Jew.

Insightful post, great point about Avatar.

Avatar in my view was a barely shaded commentary about what Europeans did to the Indigenous Americans. Is that "woke", or were the Trumppers too stupid to see what they were doing?
 
I saw Spash with Daryl Hannah and Mermaids with Cher, Wynona Ryder, and Christina Ricci.

I assume this Little Mermaid thing is different?

I'm sure you can give me a link... you brought it up... anyway I'm happy to see that you've recognized that this Rewritten version is woke in quite a number of ways... and just fine with it
.. in this case just pay attention to who likes the new version.. that will give you an idea of who they made the movie for... the rest of us will always have the original to enjoy...;)

Do you know where the weak box office is taking place?

China and South Korea. Asians hate black people, and the haters bombed the rating sites, even though NONE of them have actually seen the movie.

Every corporation who supports the LGBTQ community does so because they believe it will help their bottom line. Apparently, white racists don't want a business to market to any other demographic, if they do, they get tarred with the 'woke' label. But this whole thing will blow over, and the corporations that stick to their guns will end up winning the day. The racists have overplayed their hand. Because they really aren't that smart.

It was obviously a metaphor for the historical treatment of native Americans.

But assuming MAGAs weren't to stupid to realize it, they were more than happy to shell out money to get woke with Avatar.

Yes... the animated version is very popular...A classic... which is why so many were disappointed in the changes... and despite what everyone is saying no one really cares that Ariel is biracial... especially me...;)
