Mercedes-Benz Is Building a Network of Quick-Charging EV Stations
https://apple.news/AwT0LFvncROiq5CAVowl0EQ
Mercedes-Benz is leaning into the EV market with its forthcoming network of EV charging hubs. The company announced its plans to launch the network in the fourth quarter of 2023, but its chargers won’t be like any other of its kind.
Describing the stations as “high-power,” each hub will be capable of delivering up to 400 kW, more than any other charger in the US currently offers. To avoid damaging the vehicle, however, a car will only be charged up to its own maximum power rating.
The first of Mercedes-Benz’s hubs will be built in the company’s home city of Atlanta, Georgia, along with Chengdu, China and Mannheim, Germany. The company is aiming to build 2,000 chargers in the US alone by the end of 2024. In a decade, it wants to increase that number to 10,000 EV chargers around the globe.
Hubs will be situated at “main traffic stops” and at Mercedes-Benz dealerships. The stations will also feature surveillance cameras to ensure user safety, LED lights to help them see and coverage to protect people from the weather.
Ford is retiring these three gas models to make way for new electric vehicles
Three gas-powered Ford models are out as the Blue Oval brand makes way for new electric vehicles. The move comes as the American automaker looks ahead toward its next-generation EV platform set to spawn a new generation of Ford EVs.
Although Ford has run into some hurdles surrounding its EV rollout, the automaker is accelerating the development of its second-generation models.
Ford’s CEO Jim Farley confirmed in February that the automaker was developing its own in-house EV platform to house its next generation of electric vehicles. The new EV architecture will support a new full-size electric pickup and three-row SUV.
Project T3 (for “Trust The Truck), as it’s being called, is a tribute to the team developing an electric truck for the digital age. It’s a truck that’s fully capable of towing, hauling, exporting power, and new innovations.
The new electric truck will be “like the Millennium Falcon – with a back porch attached,” according to Farley. It will be built at Ford’s new nearly six-square-mile BlueOval City complex in Tennessee.
Meanwhile, Ford is retooling its Oakville assembly plant in Ontario, converting it into an EV and battery pack manufacturing hub.
PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE GAS-POWERED CARS: ‘SORT OF LIKE BUILDING A HORSE BARN IN 1910’
https://apple.news/AJEBFK1xYRkqFj-Us9kwNoQ
The CEO of the fast-growing electric vehicle company Rivian Automotive has shared some strong statements about purchasing a car with an internal-combustion engine (ICE).
In conversation with Robinson Meyer of Heatmap, Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe suggested that those buying an ICE vehicle would be ignoring the progress being made in the EV space and would soon experience regret for their decision.*
“I think the reality of buying a combustion-powered vehicle … is sort of like building a horse barn in 1910,” he said. “Imagine buying a Chevy Suburban in 2030 … what are you going to do with that … in 10 years?”
“Gas stations will be slowly disappearing,” he added. “It’s just weird.”
With shifts in consumer attitudes, positive policy decisions regarding EVs worldwide, and improved drivability, Scaringe told Heatmap that the increased interest and uptake in EVs is “awesome to see.”*
“If you’d told me just a few years ago,” Scaringe went on, “that Europe would be committing to 100% of new vehicles being electric … that California would be making that commitment in the same way, that the United States, through EPA regulations, is going to be 60% EV of new sales by 2030, I don’t think I would have believed it.”
Poor MAGA. They're running out of Depends.
EV SALES JUST HIT A MAJOR MILESTONE — SHOWING A SURGE IN POPULARITY
EV SALES JUST HIT A MAJOR MILESTONE

EVs now make up 10% of all new car sales.
https://apple.news/Ary7R5uBwSBWiCjAPKN2YCA
While most car sales are still gas-powered models, EVs have reached an important milestone. In 2022, one in 10 new car sales around the world were EVs.
This 10% figure may not initially seem impressive, but considering how fast sales are increasing — EVs have tripled in market share since 2020 — the number is notable in many ways.
Across the world, over 7.8 million fully electric cars were purchased in 2022, about 68% more than were sold in 2021. And by the end of the decade, the percentage of new electric cars sold could be up to 40%, meaning it could take just seven years for the current figure to quadruple.*
Even Darren Woods, the CEO of dirty energy giant Exxon Mobil told CNBC that by 2040, all new cars will be EVs.
This past year’s growth came largely from China and Europe. In China, almost one in five new car sales were EVs, another figure that’s predicted to skyrocket.
The U.S. is adopting EVs at a slower pace than Europe and China, only selling about 800,000 in 2022 (just 5.8% of all sales).*
But with companies like Ford and Tesla slashing their EV prices, alongside new $7,500 tax credits to buy EVs, these cars should be increasingly affordable to many more Americans in the coming years.*
These reasons are likely why EVs are projected to make up 14% of new car sales this year.
The world is rapidly electrifying its vehicle fleet, which is excellent news as these vehicles can greatly help our overheating planet. Ensuring the electricity that powers these EVs is clean and cheap will be critical to keeping our wallets full and our planet cool.
