A Conservative Case for Gay Marriage - Promoting American Values

No, not all empirical evidence, just the evidence touted by the queer lobby.

In 6000 years of history marriage has never been defined as between two people of the same sex. Queers want to change that. In other words, be treated special.

Not all the evidence, but overwhelming bulk of the scientific evidence.

Marriage laws have changed numerous times over that 6,000 years. Gays want to add to marriage, not change the entire institution.

Personally, I still believe that the gov't should be out of teh marriage game completely. Remove all the marriage specific benefits and do away with the gov't issued marriage licence. This will nullify the argument. It will allow religions to decide their own marriage requirements and leave the rest of the population to decide theirs as well.

=Atheistmark;582088]Freedom of speech is not subject to typical democratic debate. It shouldn't be.

so freedom of speech has no place in democracies or republics like ours....why do you hate the constitution? why do you hate freedom? is it because you know your ideas won't stand chance in the market place of free ideas.

Yep yep yep. It's all the same when it comes to the federal constitution though.

no, you said that CA needs to have its statute overturned, prop 8 amended the CA constitution, so its not a statute that needs overturning....do keep up

i have no doubt if this issue is presented before scotus that scotus will rule in favor of gay marriage, unless the government gets out of marriage first

That's disgusting. To quote a Haitian friend of mine: "if you can do that to a woman, you're not far off from doing it to a man."

Your friend is an idiot.

When you have anal sex with a woman you are still having sex with a woman. To claim otherwise or to suggest that you are "...not far off from doing it to a man" is nonsense.

I guess your friend also claims if you will allow a woman to perform oral sex on you, then you are not far off from doing it to another man? lmao

All the nonsense claims aside, the fact that its legal for men & women to enjoy sodomy and its legal for same sex couples to enjoy sodomy, means it is not any sort of justification for denying gays the ability to marry.

What about my statement would make me a racist?

And your second argument flies in the face of all the physics involved in butt sex. In short, FAILURE!

That having a friend who's Haitian is "odd company".

That's probably why queers like butt sex as well, their dicks being of smaller caliber.

SM, since you are one of the few on this board who disagree with gay marriage, why not address the points raised in the article instead of posting the same tired shit.

No, it's "odd company" because your 'friend' equate having sex with this:

Is not that far from having sex with this:

Citizens who have been denied equality are invariably told to "wait their turn" and to "be patient."

Why do you people continue to repeat this? It is offensive to me when you try to compare "gay marriage" to civil rights. That one point causes me to just want to tune out everything else you have to say. It's a flat out distortion of the truth, and it has been debated over and over again, but you still insist on making this irrelevant and baseless point. No one is being denied any goddamn right! A gay person has exactly the SAME right as a straight person regarding the institution of marriage. There is NO difference! A gay person can not marry someone of the same gender, but neither can a straight person! To continue insisting that someone is being denied a right that others enjoy, is just plain old dishonest! When you keep being deliberately dishonest, it tends to alienate people who might otherwise sympathize with you.

We simply CAN'T establish by law, a government licensing of marriage based on a sexual behavior! To do this, would undermine the entire integrity of marriage, and set a landmark precedent for any other group of sexual deviants to demand equal protection under the law! I don't care what Sweden does, they don't have a Constitution which guarantees equal protection under the law, so what they do is irrelevant. By the very principles of our Constitution, should we establish marriage based on sexuality, we MUST grant the same exact considerations for ANY sexuality, regardless of whether we are personally comfortable with it or not. You think I am saying this to sound alarming and paranoid, but it's the absolute truth. Our Constitution prohibits us from ever passing a law to make marriage be defined by sexual behavior, and if we ever did it, no exception could ever be made again regarding sexuality... if someone wanted to marry their goat, our Constitution would guarantee them that right because of the "equal protection" articulated in the 14th Amendment.

Aside from this purely constitutional reason we can't do it, Americans don't want to do it! Time and time again, America has rejected same-sex marriage, coast to coast, in some of the most liberal environments in America... NO ONE WANTS IT! Arguments range from the legal ones, as I presented, to more traditional conservative views, pertaining to unity of the family. For whatever reason, the VAST majority of America does not want this.... yet you press on!

It seems to me, you either don't believe in democracy and the will of the people, or you simply want to supersede it for your own personal agenda, and force your views on the rest of society against their will. Which one is it?

Your argument is the same drivel as could have been used in civil rights cases. Interracial marriages were illegal and the same argument could have been used then. "No one is being denied equal rights, because blacks can't marry whites and whites can't marry blacks". Its not about sex. It is about who they love. Just as I cannot fall in love with a man, gays cannot fall in love with someone of the opposite gender. So they are being denied equal rights.

As for those of us being pro gay marriage being against democracy, there are times when the majority is wrong. In the south, the majority was against integration. But the beauty of our constitution is that it protects the minority against tyranny by the majority.

While I am personally opposed to the governments involvement in marriage for anyone.... IF they are going to be involved, then government 'marriage' should be open to any two consenting non-related (sorry ditzie) adults.

Great article. I think it provides sound rational points that counter any of the 'knee-jerk' hostile oppositional 'points'

It just sums it up. So they decided to be abnormal, immoral, unnatural and unhealthy. Now they wanted to be treated special.

Pppffttt...

It is abnormal given that the majority are heterosexual.

It is only immoral to YOU and those who think like YOU. You do not have the right to dictate YOUR moralities on others, just as a gay person does not have the right to force you to believe that 'gay is ok'.

It is not unnatural. It occurs in numerous species on this planet. If it were 'choice' then this would not occur. Too many species that exhibit gay behavior do not possess the cognitive ability to 'choose' to be gay.

It is no more unhealthy than heterosexuality.
