DId the Maine shooter have the right to bear an AR-15?

false equivalence. why must you continue to use these?

blacks/slaves were not considered people, at that time. they were property, thus they had no rights. I get that it was wrong, but judging them by our current standards is wrong.

Correct. This fallacy of his is called a 'presentism fallacy'. He is applying present standards and customs to the past.

I am not the one calling the right to bear arms absolute. You fucks are.

The right to bear arms is also absolute. No government can take that away. No prison or mental institution can take that away.
Apparently you are completely unaware that prisoners also have guns, knives, knuckles, spikes, etc.

He can link to any of my posts.
The right to bear arms is absolute. Even prisoners have this right. The right of self defense is also absolute. No matter how oppressive a government is, they cannot take away this right.

He is completely unaware that prisoners often have weapons of various sorts (generally 'homemade'). He is also unaware that practically anything can be used as a weapon or 'arm'.

you use due process of law.........if someone appears untrustworthy in public, poses a threat to others, then you give them the hearing they deserve. After that, if proven he/she is a threat, you involuntarily commit them for treatment

Fine. Nothing about that removes or destroys the absolute right of self defense.

The right to bear arms is absolute. .

Milquetoast Macaw makes a point.

The above is indeed true
assuming a literal interpretation of our Constitution
and assuming consensus that the Constitution is the absolute ultimate authority.

It does not in any way alter the reality
that our Constitution blows chunks.

I embrace reality. For instance, I would NEVER claim something critical to the function of a modern society “cannot be necessary” simply because there’s no mention of it in the Constitution.

That kind of claim would be the height of stupidity, don’t you think?

The Constitution does not grant rights. That is not it's purpose. Rights are inherent.
