The People's Seat...

Chapter 54. Too many beers last eve.

sokay....I'm sure you weren't the only liberal drowning his sorrows last night.....

I am curious though....Teddy Kennedy was sworn in the day after he won the special election held in November, 1962 to select the person to fill John Kennedy's senate seat.......apparently Mass. wasn't that concerned about the restrictions of the law at that time......

Is it possable the laws and procedures were different 58 years ago?

I agree with Webb...

So do I.

If the Dems try to do something cynical or tricky w/ regard to getting Brown sworn in as he should be, I'm truly done with this leadership. I'm kind of done, anyway; I would love to see Reid & Pelosi replaced....

It has nothing to do with Massachusetts and everything to do with the Senate. The Senate seated Kennedy by unanimous consent notwithstanding that the election had not been certified. The Senate could certainly do the same for Brown, although it is unlikely (as I have said three time now).

We need fresh blood in Reid and Pelosi's positions. That will not happen till the general in November. When it happens, the replacements will be chosen by President Obama and the Obama reelection train will be full force ahead.

It's hard to unseat Congressional leaders, but they need to do it. Reid & Pelosi were terrible choices to begin with. They may be effective when it comes to getting legislation passed, but they put a terrible face on the party.

They are easy targets for the GOP; they really typify Washington arrogance &
the inside-the-Beltway mentality...

In many ways, Jim Webb is full of it. THIS is what the GOP is all about regarding healthcare:

"If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."
---Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)

The GOP doesn't give a god damn about it's constituents....for them it's about the status quo retaining POWER. It's about destroying the very idea that this country openly rejected the PNAC (and put a black man into the Oval Office to boot). If the folks in Mass. think Brown and the GOP have their best interests at heart, are they in for a rude awakening...because the status quo is what's been screwing them over regarding healthcare. They have no one to blame but themselves.

I'm always fascinated at how people in this country continually vote against their best interest.

America wants obama to fail.

If the Senate rules are the same as they were 58 years ago, Brown should be treated the same.

I think he'll be seated pretty much as soon as he is certified because even Reid can see that it would be a mistake to fool around with it and fuel more of that fire. I can't see them bringing up the question (even bringing it up at all) for unanimous consent to seat him before certification.

^^^ Above is my real opinion.

Now, to poke the bruise...

Kirk isn't a Senator anymore.

They Senator will get seated in due time. Just like anyone else who won such an election. If not there will and should be hell to pay!

I agree. I think that once the certification is presented to the Secretary of the Senate, any Senator can raise the issue of seating Brown. I suspect that McConnell will raise the question of seating Brown once the certification is received, he'll be sworn in and then the economy will be fixed and everyone will be happy.

The idea of delaying the seating of Senator Brown came from Rush making wild accusations in an attempt to discredit the Democratic party. It was never going to happen, except maybe in Rush's paranoid brain. Drug addiction does that to people.

The Democrats are fence post stupid, so don't put anything past them. They are so furious now they are pretty much willing to jump with the noose around their necks and just hold their breath hoping the chair doesn't fall out from underneath them.

They will try and ram their agenda forward no matter what the people want or say. Things should definitely get interesting these next couple of weeks.
