Electric Vehicles Are Less Reliable Than Conventional Cars
Electric vehicle owners continue to report far more problems with their vehicles than owners of conventional cars or hybrids, according to Consumer Reports’ newly released annual car reliability survey. The survey reveals that, on average, EVs from the past three model years had 79 percent more problems than conventional cars. Based on owner responses on more than 330,000 vehicles, the survey covers 20 potential problem areas, including engine, transmission, electric motors, leaks, and infotainment systems.

“Most electric cars today are being manufactured by either legacy automakers that are new to EV technology, or by companies like Rivian that are new to making cars,” says Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports. “It’s not surprising that they’re having growing pains and need some time to work out the bugs.” Fisher says some of the most common problems EV owners report are issues with electric drive motors, charging, and EV batteries. (Note: Charging problems reported by members are with the vehicle, not with home or public chargers.)...

80% more problems? No wonder why EVs are sitting unsold on dealers lots.

UNFAIR SUGGESTION!

A conventional electric lamp will always be more reliable than your flashlight! Well until the next Blackout anyway!

Come on pal, try to present a fair intelligent argument for heaven's sake!

And besides, EV's are still considered a luxury item for most American families.

Just about everyone I know who owns a hybrid or EV, also has one or even more conventional vehicles in the household!

SO, I do not know why Trumptards are sharting their britches over EV's!

It just don't make any logical sense anymore! And, while we are on the subject, making everything political, is not very logical either, when you stop and think about it!

Because, in reality, it is about the easiest thing to spot! So please do try to be less of an obvious political hack! EVERYBODY IS WATCHING AND JUDGING ACCORDINGLY!

Let's appreciate the fact that you now have a choice- TO ME, THAT IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT!

I love to have choices, and the more the better!

Consumer Reports Study Finds Electric Vehicle Maintenance Costs Are 50% Less Than Gas-Powered Cars
November 16, 2020 in Transportation & Fuels

A new study by Consumer Reports equips consumers with data showing the relatively lower cost of electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and overall ownership when compared to comparable gas-powered vehicles. Consumer Reports recently released a study analyzing EV ownership costs, including a chapter on their lifetime maintenance costs. The study looks at both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and helps answer frequently asked questions about EV maintenance and other costs.

Key takeaways:

EVs have lower lifetime maintenance costs—and lower costs overall—compared to comparable gas-powered vehicles.
BEVs and PHEVs have similar lifetime costs.
The cost savings of EV ownership are only expected to increase with new models and battery cost reductions.
The study found that “when total ownership cost is considered—including such factors as purchase price, fueling costs, and maintenance expenses—EVs come out ahead, especially in more affordable segments.” Consumer Reports states that “owning an electric vehicle will save the typical driver $6,000-$10,000 over the life of the vehicle, compared to owning a comparable gas-powered vehicle.”

Electric cars are cheaper to service than gas-powered competitors
Tim Levin Oct 28, 2021, 8:42 AM EDT

https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-cost-less-service-maintenance-than-gas-cars-study-2021-10

Electric cars cost 31% less to service over the first three years than gas cars, a new study says.
Electric cars had both lower maintenance and repair costs, according to We Predict.
They have far fewer moving parts than gasoline-powered vehicles.
Upfront, electric cars tend to cost more than gas-fueled vehicles. But they'll save you money on maintenance in the long run
.

That's according to a study out Thursday from We Predict, a predictive analytics firm. The company found electric vehicles cost nearly a third less to service over their first three years of ownership than combustion-engine cars.

We Predict's study contributes to a growing body of research confirming that battery-powered vehicles are cheaper to own than ones that run on fossil fuels. EVs have fewer moving parts that can go bad and don't need some of the routine maintenance required of conventional cars, like oil changes.

The firm analyzed the money manufacturers and owners spent to service more than 13 million 2018-model-year vehicles over their first three years on the road. Service costs included repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, software updates, and recalls. It found that although EVs were more expensive to service early on, by the three-year mark, they became more economical.

Man arrested for planning attack at Tesla Cybertruck launch: reports

https://apple.news/A6xKUcVIVTzmlzaFRuNcOXQ

A 28-year-old man was arrested for planning an attack at Tesla's delivery event in Austin.

He is believed to hate technology and had previously threatened Tesla on Instagram.

After his arrest, he said: "I was going to shoot up Elon Musk and the plant," local news reported.
A Florida man was arrested this week after he was alleged to have planned a "mass casualty event" at Tesla's Cybertruck promotional event on Thursday.
Paul Ryan Overeem, 28, is believed to have driven to Texas specifically for the event at the Tesla Giga Texas factory in Austin. Traffic cameras spotted his vehicle on a highway in southwest Austin on November 28.
He had already been under investigation for threatening posts he made under the name "ufotnoitalumis" in an Instagram group chat, local news station KVUE reported.
On November 9, Overeem posted: "I plan on killing people at that even (sic) ok (sic) November 30th and I would like you do something about it so I don't have to."
"If I'm saying I'm gonna kill people then you should take this seriously," read another message.

I went electric in 2015. My son and his wife did about the same time. We will not go back to ICEs. The only problem is driving long distances. The problem is not the EV, but the lack of charging stations in rural areas. That is changing.

Wow! So you've been electric for 8 years. Congrats.
Did you buy a Tesla? What kind of maintenance have you had?

When it gets too cold, the chemical reactions that generate electricity can slow down, reducing the battery's output. On average, HERE estimates that vehicle range drops 20% when temperatures start hitting the 32 degrees Fahrenheit mark. If it drops another 10 degrees Fahrenheit that number slumps to 40%

https://www.here.com/learn/blog/ev-...en it gets too cold, that number slumps to 40%.

When its 10 degrees my ICE car still has 100% of its range

EVs on the other hand, are so efficient that they need to pull more power from the already-stressed battery to the heater. In these situations, their range can drop to about 41-percent on average. This is backed by a 2019 study from AAA where they tested different EVs in 20-degree Fahrenheit temperatures.

Actually, they do. Come California's ban on new car sales of non-EV's they won't let you buy one in another state then register it in California. The same goes if you already own a non EV that is newer than their ban year, and you move to California. Can't register your car there.

California does this by checking year model of the vehicle, and in the case of ICE cars, the year model of the engine.

States like California are going to give you no choice about things. And, it's not just cars. California bans or restricts a whole plethora of products, chemicals, etc., that are allowed in other states.

As California has already put a ban on new ICE vehicles come 2035, 11 counties in the state have already banned new gas station construction, and it's likely that the state will follow by 2035 with a ban.

Michigan. It has been cold for months. The car charger builds up fewer miles in cold weather. If you are driving hundreds of miles regularly, an EV may not suit you. A hybrid may be a better answer. The heater on my Volt is very good. It is quick and hot. I do not struggle in cold weather and the vehicle starts easily in winter. It also gets good traction in snow. Michigan built the first road that will charge an electric vehicle as you drive on it.

If states like California, population 40 million, start banning new ICE sales how long do you think Detroit will continue to make them?

Women should have a choice before Conception. In cases of rape or incess where there is no choice before conception abortion should be available. After conception its not all about her body. People ,males and females, should be responsible and not use abortion as birth control. Spring for a condom at the least. In fact half of the babies will grow up to be women so those women should have the right to live.

Extreme heat hoses batteries also. That sucks for Texas in the summer where distances are great and temperatures over 100 are commonplace.

Range decreases an average of 5% at 90 degrees and 31% at 100 degrees, the company found. Recurrent based its findings on EVs reporting their real-world range combined with reported national high temperatures from July 4th.

How much range a vehicle loses in extreme heat varies by model. At a temperature of 90 degrees, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning lost the least range — just 1% compared with EPA estimates. The Nissan Leaf lost 22%, the Chevy Bolt lost 9% and the Hyundai Kona lost 5%.

Tesla was a unique case for all four vehicles in its lineup, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. Most Teslas get only 60% of their EPA-estimated range even in moderate temperatures of 60 degrees. From 60 to 100 degrees, their range is virtually the same, the study found.

California has always had stricter air quality laws because of their smog problem. They've had stricter emissions laws on gas cars for decades. I'm surprised you didn't know that. Well, maybe not so much.
