Engoron acknowledged in his ruling that all of the loans in question were paid back in full and on time, but he argued that the absence of a victim “does not extinguish the harm that false statements inflict on the marketplace.” He added, “The next group of lenders to receive bogus statements might not be so lucky.”

The problem for Trump is he admits he lied on documents, he showed no remorse for lying on documents, and then he continues to lie on documents while his business is under receivership.

It is the continuation of the crime that causes Trump the biggest part of his losses. He simply refuses to control himself until it costs him a large financial penalty.
We saw the same thing with E Jean Carroll. He lost and just couldn't shut up until he lost again and the jury made the award big enough to focus his short attention span when it comes to obeying the rules.

E jean Carroll accused trump of rape and didn't have a shred of evidence and was even caught lying about the alleged incident. Trump has a right to say her accusation was a lie.

If Trump got more favorable terms on loans, based on him lying about the value of his property, then the bank essentially got cheated out of untold thousands of dollars in interest.

Doesn't take a CPA to figure that out, Cletus.

Hey stupid. The judge admitted there was no victim. That means even if trump lied ( and he didn't), the penalty should have been like $50,000.

The attorney general's office argued that the law at issue does not require the existence of victims to be enforceable. They also disputed the notion that there were no victims, saying Trump's bankers were harmed because they could have charged higher interest on loans if they knew his true net worth was lower than he claimed.

Well, the law cares about them and many people, myself included, care about the law.

Especially when it comes to wealthy, powerful politicians and their ability to break those laws for their own personal gain, while the rest of us get held to account for much smaller scale infractions of those same laws.
