The "Trump is Hitler" went beyond just a comparison of rhetoric. The Left tried to point out actions, tried to tie behavior, and in many ways, did paint Trump as a literal Hitler.
Feel free to substantiate that claim. I've never seen it that way, just demagogic comparisons, common to him, and demagogues in general.
Of course, this over-the-top gaslighting completely backfired on them. Instead of people buying into such hysterical hyperbole, people simply turned it off and tuned it out. The Left found themselves without an audience.
Really, how so? Losing the election was largely driven by the blame on Biden for the inflation and Repubs pandering over immigration issues, not much else, though, of course, you'll try and manipulate the conversation that the slight margin of victory was somehow a total abandonment of the left. Hardly, his small margin of victory defies that conclusion.
Now, in the wake of losing the election, their hysteria has been laid bare.
Nope, see above.
If they really meant what they said, then they'd be willing to pay the political price to keep Trump out of office, but they're not doing that. Instead, their hysterical rhetoric makes them look like angry teenage girls hating on one of their peers. Gossip and inuendo aren't a good look.
Whatever. No, the comparison is valid, will always be valid.
You are glossing over the incredibly horrific things Trump has said, and the similarity of Hitler's rhetoric.
Note that I did not say 'genocidal inclinations', I said 'Rhetoric' and only rhetoric.
"We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country," he told a New Hampshire crowd.
"We must eradicate Marxism root and branch." -- Adolf Hitler
Trump said that immigration is
"a very sad thing for our country; it's poisoning the blood of our country."
This is the kind of rhetoric that demagogues like Hitler trafficked in.
"The Jew was and is a parasite in the body of other peoples." --Adolf Hitler
"Blood mixture and the resultant drop in the racial level is the sole reason why cultures perish." -- Mein Kampf
Much of his other moves, acts, are authoritarian, the kinds of things common to demagogues and dicators, in their leanings, to wit:
Attempt to Overturn the 2020 Election:
Pressured state officials (e.g., Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes”), attempted to install fake electors, and urged Vice President Pence to reject certified electoral votes.
Encouragement of Political Violence:
Told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” during a presidential debate, and his post-election rhetoric inspired the January 6th Capitol attack.
Attacks on the Free Press:
Referred to the media as the “enemy of the people,” regularly undermined press freedoms, and suggested broad libel laws to suppress critical reporting.
Weaponization of Government Agencies:
Intervened in Justice Department cases involving allies like Roger Stone and Michael Flynn, raising concerns about the independence of the judiciary.
Refusal to Commit to Peaceful Transitions of Power:
Repeatedly refused to confirm he would accept election results in 2016 and 2020, eroding democratic norms.
Undermining the Rule of Law:
Pardoned allies who were convicted of serious crimes (e.g., Steve Bannon, Joe Arpaio) and floated pardons for January 6th rioters, signaling loyalty over legality.
Militarization of Domestic Issues:
Used federal troops and tear gas to clear peaceful protesters in Lafayette Square for a photo-op, invoking comparisons to authoritarian crackdowns.
Politicization of the Military:
Urged military leaders to engage in political gestures, such as threatening to deploy active-duty troops against protesters during the George Floyd demonstrations.
Cultivation of Personality Politics:
Branded himself as a singular leader who could “fix” the country, fostering a cult of personality rather than promoting institutional democracy.
Attacks on Judges and the Judiciary:
Criticized judges who ruled against him, undermining trust in the judicial system as an impartial arbiter.
Disregard for Congressional Oversight:
Defied subpoenas and instructed officials not to cooperate with congressional investigations, undercutting legislative checks and balances.
Promotion of Baseless Conspiracy Theories:
Claimed widespread voter fraud without evidence, undermining trust in democratic institutions and electoral processes.
Targeting Political Opponents:
Promised to investigate and imprison political rivals, such as repeatedly threatening to “lock up” Hillary Clinton and more recently targeting Joe Biden.
Erosion of Voting Rights:
Made baseless claims about mail-in voting fraud, attempted to interfere with election certification, and sought to disenfranchise voters.
Calls to Limit Immigration Based on Racial and Ethnic Bias:
Proposed a “Muslim ban,” separated migrant families at the border, and described certain immigrants as coming from “shithole countries.”
Purge of Dissenters in His Administration:
Removed inspectors general and fired officials like James Comey and Alexander Vindman who refused to show loyalty or comply with his demands.
Attempts to Seize Unprecedented Presidential Power:
Declared himself immune from oversight and prosecution while in office, claiming “absolute immunity” in legal disputes.
No, comparing Trump to demagogues, and their rhetoric is warranted, justified, and fair.
