President Zelesnkyy dose not control the outcome of the war in his country, President Trump does.

He was told to negotiate the end of the was or there would be no more weapons and money from America.

Uhm... Life just does not work that way. trump does not control the outcome of the war. Even if he were willing to send American troops, he would only partly control the outcome. But he is not willing to send troops, so has direct control.

trump can cutoff aid, but that is not control over the outcome. And once that threat is acted upon, he has even less control over the outcome. Ukraine is not going to hand over control to someone who is not sending aid. Why pay trump for nothing?

Slightly wrong, but this is one of those places that details matter. Zelenskyy was told he had to surrender, which meant no more aid. If he did not surrender, then no more aid. So it is not either/or, but just no more aid.

If there is no more aid, no matter what Zelenskyy does, why should he do anything for trump? Why should he give trump huge amounts of natural resources?

Can you see the problem here?

trump has decided to cut Ukraine loose, but then wants influence in Ukraine. he cannot have both.

How did surrendering Czechoslovakia go in preventing WWII? Not so well?

Standing strong against the Soviets prevented WWIII. trump telling Putin we will not defend our allies will possibly lead to WWIII.

I originally said "lying", but then edited it to "wrong." Even if you are wrong, you might really believe it, so not technically lying. I do not believe I am wrong, so even if I am wrong, I am not technically lying.
 
"They respect me", Trump said during the meeting, referring to dictators he envies. Trump has done nothing in his privileged life to earn the respect of a brutal autocrat like Putin. Trump is a useful idiot. He defines the term.

Wrong, Walter, President Trump can stop all weapons and funding to Ukraine…war over.

Or, he can negotiate the end to the killing fields and strike a deal for rare earth chemicals, which, it appears, that Zelenskyy has just agreed to.

Don’t be a fool, Walter, President Trump controls the outcome of the war.

The Ukrainians would probably keep fighting with the weapons and funding that the Europeans provide them. They might well lose, but they would lose anyway if they surrender. Again, it is usually better to go down fighting, than to just accept extermination.

And then if the Ukrainians lose, the guerrilla warfare begins. Remember when we were all sure that Russia would defeat Ukraine in two weeks? Well, the plan was to immediately switch into guerrilla warfare from there. That is the obvious next step.

There are a lot of mass graves in Russia, where the killing fields of war had ended, and the new killing fields of "peace" began. Russia is famous for conducting massacres after wars.

But say the Ukrainians decide to surrender anyway. White flags are cheap. You just find a white sheet, and put it on a stick.

Zelenskyy does not have to pay trump hundreds of billions to surrender to the Russians. He can do it for free.
