They didn't give the exact description of the 7.62 ammo. If it is 7.62 x 51 it could all be used in a AK rifle. It was 7.62x39 it is shorter and for a AK47.
American AR10's shoot a conventional NATO 308 round.
It is confusing but there are more than one type of AK rifle.

The guys in my gun club get together and buy ammo (and gun powder) in bulk, in a variety of calibers. Even then, they only get 5000 or so rounds at a time (sometimes, more .22s.).
180,000 rounds in one van could only be headed to an illegal destination.

Usually people that own run of the mill AK 47's and SKS rifles are using 7.62 x 39. Quite often steel cased, cheap and plentiful.

I believe America gifted a bunch of M1As to the Mexican Army and DEA, and they get stolen or sold to the Cartels.


If you're going to have some other rifle, with only 1 in 20, that says to me, squad sniper rifle. The American Military Sniper Rifles are too expensive, but in the international arms market, Dragunovs are cheap. ( They are also fairly poor sniper rifles, compared to ours, but, good enough for the job )
