When you set a Lithium EV on fire, you make clouds of toxic, half-burnt plastic soot with attached toxic lithium.
The material is heavier than air, once it cools, and comes quickly, undetectably back down to ground level, and is inhaled.
Because of the high active lithium ion on its out edges, it sticks and is absorbed quickly by mucous membranes and lung tissues.
It will eventually cause cancers, birth defects, and violent outburst mental illness (too late!)
So, the real punishment for the arsonists, will likely be a slow, painful, death.
And then there is the completely innocent bystanders who will also die...

Washington State law refers to this as 2nd degree arson, carrying a penalty of a $20,000 fine, enforced restitution (paying for the damage, in other words, buying a new Tesla), and 10 years in the State penitentiary for each occurrence, cumulative.
Burning two Teslas can net you a $40,000 fine, buying both victims new Teslas, and 20 years in the State penitentiary.

Lithium is not an ion.
Lithium metal is safe to handle with gloves. It is easy to corrode by water and can cause chemical burns by improper handling. It does not cause cancer. It does not cause mental illness.
In Washington, a habitual arsonist or one that puts human lives in danger is convicted of 1st arson, carrying a possible life penalty.
