Record beef prices raise Memorial Day cookout costs

Beef prices set records last month at U.S. grocery stores, and economists expect they will climb further as demand increases during the summer grilling season that traditionally begins with cookouts on Memorial Day on Monday.

Higher prices hit consumers who are increasingly nervous about the economic impact of President Donald Trump's trade policy and after Washington halted cattle imports from Mexico over a pest called New World screwworm, which could hike up beef prices further by tightening the cattle supply.

One consumer feeling the pinch is DeAndrea Chavis, an artificial intelligence analyst in Raleigh, North Carolina, who buys ground beef nearly every week to prep tacos and other dishes for lunch but lately is making smaller portions because of rising prices.

I suppose for those in inner cities without a number of grocery chains, this is an issue. Ground beef this week was $2.99/lb. I'm not a big fan, but when we have company we'll make meatloaf or chili. I put 10-15 lbs in the freezer.
Porterhouse is on sale for $7.99/lb for Memorial Day. Around Easter I put about 20lbs of rib eye in the freezer for $6.99/lb. I know in some places, ground beef can cost that much.

I often wonder if these articles are ignoring the obvious...that knowing how to shop and planning ahead can trump proof your food budget?

So the inner city folks just aren’t as smart as you?

Clearly you are simply too fucking ignorant to have this discussion.

How do you manage to feed yourself?
It’s ok, we all know you were lying about what you paid for beef

$6.99 a pound for ribeye? Did you go back in a Time Machine?

Or maybe you meant $16.99/pound?

The Han talk about the times when they had meat a couple of handful times per year.

And how they are never doing that again.

Kroger $7/lb was here just for the loyalty customers....with a 2 pak limit....not everyone got this deal cause it was almost certainly a lost leader.

I Know about that yes?

I am told that Kroger is doing the best job in America in the grocery space, though they dont even come close to what the best of the best Chinese grocers do, America being increasingly a third world country.

I gotta say what I see....tis how I am built....maybe you need to have a convo with GOD if this is a problem for you.

As for me you speak to the hand.

I would never pay $16.99 for anything. If I prove that price, or even easier...$7.99 for Porterhouse, will you agree to leave the board forever?

I didn't think so.

Shut the fuck up and stop trying to impress the other morons here.

There are huge sales everywhere...making the holiday meal, including what goes on the grill, very affordable.. And lots of people do stock their freezers...and buy local...
I'm sure there are many areas with no competing grocery chains. Those areas suffer. Food deserts are a thing
