A megabill mystery: New solar and wind tax comes as a surprise to Republican senators

Tucked inside Republicans' massive domestic policy bill is an excise tax for wind and solar projects, a provision that came as a surprise not just to the renewable energy industry, but also to numerous senators who are crafting the legislation.

In a twist, Republican senators insist they don't know how or why the tax was inserted into the bill they're rushing to pass. No senator is taking credit for or defending it. And at least one wants it removed.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the Budget Committee chairman, who released the 940-page bill, said he doesn't know where that provision came from.

"It's a secret, I guess," Graham told NBC News on Monday evening. "I don't know where it came from."

Wow. MAGAts lying. Go figure. LOL

It's Trump. Like all MAGAts, he thinks Global Warming is a hoax and wants to give a handy to the oil, gas and coal industries.

Good. Wind and solar suck as energy production systems. They should be left to their fate.

And with the eventual failure of Solyndra and all of the other tax payer funded solar cell production corporations, all of the Solar Cells being erected in the U.S. are made in China, on Dirty Coal Power.

Since there has never been a single solar cell manufactured, with greater than unity (1.0) energy gain, all of those vast solar array projects, represent significant damage to the world-wide environment, due to the Chinese Factories consuming far more power, usually 3X more, power generated by dirty coal power plants, than the Solar Arrays will produce over their expected useful life spans.

I would add, that the expected useful life span does not include the arrays damaged beyond further use, by things like Cyclonic Storms or Hail Damage.

The Solar Voltaic systems we are paying taxes to field, and a huge environmental disaster!

If you care about the environmental damage in electrical power production, you should support ending all use of Solar Voltaic arrays. They are just time displaced Dirty Coal.

If they were being produced in factories, in the United States, being powered by Clean, Advanced Nuclear Power, they would not be such a bad environmental decision, but then, if we had lots of Clean, Advanced, Nuclear Power in the U.S. we wouldn't need any Solar Power, except on Satellites and remote mountain top Transmitters.

As things stand, Solar Cells are just a way to fund the Chinese Communists Military Expansion and Modernization.

Nice MAGAt rant. I support nuclear power. Fusion power is better, but that's a work in progress. It's difficult to run satellites and spacecraft on coal and oil but I'm certain many MAGA morons believe that's just a Chinese Commie conspiracy. LOL

I don't care who makes solar panels or wind turbines. Both are bad for the environment and raise the cost of electricity markedly, usually by 3 to 5 times what it otherwise would be.

Trump’s going to be angry. 🤣

MAGAts think climate change is a hoax. No wonder they are called MAGA morons.

The Church of Global Warming is a religion, Sybil. It's fundamentalist. That's one of your many religions, Sybil.

No gas or vapor has the capability to warm the Earth, Sybil. You cannot create energy out of nothing. You are ignoring the 1st law of thermodynamics again.

Random words. No apparent coherency.

The lower right panel is an existential fallacy. The problem with Gorebal Warming is attribution to a single cause. All other potential causes are either dismissed or argued as irrelevant.

What makes it an existential fallacy is the following reasoning:

All Global warming is caused by CO2
Showing that there are other causes besides CO2 exist.

The fallacy is the attribution to a single cause that may or may not be the cause of warming due to the complexity of the system.

Yeah, cut the oil and gas subsidies first. We give them 20.5 billion every single year and their profits are huge. https://www.eesi.org/papers/view/fa...-closer-look-at-tax-breaks-and-societal-costs The people get the cleanup costs for them too.
How many times do I have to go through this before you get it through you thick skull that oil and gas get minimal subsidies today. Look at the list you posted. Virtually everything on it is simply normal accounting procedures open to any industry.

Example:

Percentage Depletion This is essentially just a form of depreciation of an asset. Any company can depreciate real assets. That isn't a "subsidy."

Called it.

Good. Taxpayers should be getting a full refund back from these left wing bullshit solar and wind scams. They got people killed here in Texas, so throw in murder charges as well.
