New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani did not hide his opinion of capitalism on Thursday night, saying he disliked it and invoking Martin Luther King Jr. to bolster his position.



During an interview with CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Mamdani embraced his identity as a democratic socialist and said he has many problems with capitalism.

"No, I have many critiques of capitalism," he said in response to Burnett asking him if he likes it.

Mamdani secured the Democratic Party nomination for New York City mayor on Tuesday in an upset over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and several other candidates.

Mamdani ran a campaign focused on making one of the country’s most expensive places to live more attainable for average residents. His proposals call for multi-year rent freezes and massive investment in public housing. Critics argue his proposals could worsen existing problems in the rental market. He has also taken criticism for not condemning the anti-Israel rallying cry, "Globalize the Intifada."

During his CNN appearance Thursday, Mamdani touted his plans to freeze rent and increase taxes on New York’s wealthiest residents. Burnett followed up by asking about him being described as a democratic socialist.

You're such a dumb doormat! You have NO problem with corporate welfare, NO problem with the eternally failing versions of "trickle down economics" or skewed tax cuts for the wealthy. But freezing rents FOR PREVIOUSLY RENT STABILIZED DWELLINGS and providing free bus service FOR WORKERS TRANSPORTING INTO MANHATTAN FROM OTHER BOROUGHS is just beyond the pale! :rolleyes:

What got King killed was his near success in bridging the American Unions with the Civil Rights Movement. Dumb donkey's like YOU have NO CLUE what life is going to be like without the protections, rights and benefits we do have. It's odd to me that social and economic progress frightens you that much that you would put a would-be dictator in power, and cheer as he dismentles the checks and balances that are the only thing between us and a true dictatorship.

It is beyond my ken why *any* American would support and/or cheer for this.

The undeniable earmarks of Trump and his policies are hatred and cruelty. Trump was gleeful as he talks about the potential of immigrants being eaten by gators. He talked about putting moats around immigrant holding cells before. Now he found a way to do it. He was laughing as he talked about how you zig-zag as you try to escape brutal dehumanizing detention and face gators. You rightys find that presidential. Trump needs help.
