This is not the first time in history that a civilized society devolved into rule-by-political-assassination.
It happened in ancient Greece and Rome. It was very prevalent in Renaissance Italy during the War-of-the-Great-Houses. America has had bouts of it during the assassinations of the Kennedy's and MLK. They attempted to kill Reagan and Trump.

JFK was a radical, in his concepts of doing the difficult things, just because they were challenges. He stood up to Soviet Aggression, and for market capitalism.
MLK was a radical, in his advocacy of peaceful, but obstructive protest to a system of racism which at the time, many Americans defended. But in his personal life, setting aside a possible infidelity, he was a very conservative person.
There is nothing inherently wrong with being a Radical or a Liberal, depending on how it is done.
I greatly admire and respect both of these men. I wish I had a tenth of the wisdom and leadership they had.

It's weird that people don't really see how they are just feeding into this cycle. This time, it's more who are on the right - they are condemning Democrats for the "rhetoric," while calling all Democrats or people on the left "evil" and "murderers."

The guy who shot trump was a trump voter. We have no clue who this guy is or what his motivation was. What we do know is that mental illness knows no party.
There are way more than two sides to American Politics. And no side is completely right, or wrong. I am usually right in the middle of the road, getting run over by the people speeding both ways.
