If Obama was "clueless" for the first week of the spill it's only because BP had the only operational underwater cameras and wouldn't let anyone other than their own have access to the information.

We the People that this disaster is affecting weren't even deemed important enough to view the pictures from the wellhead until the press started reporting how BP was stonewalling everyone.

BP... Mr. President, we have no problem with that, after all... it was your administration that allowed us to bypass that last inspection that could have prevented this whole thing. Sure - because that's exactly what I said...the "problem is solved."

It's a big step, and where the gov't is pretty appropriately acting, imo. Try telling someone down in the Gulf who was devasted economically by this that the new fund is just classic "liberals throwing money at a problem."

You guys will spin anything. This is big relief for a lot of people.

Obama DOES suck as a leader. He has shown that time and again during his brief tenure. He is in way over his head, just as his critics said he was.

To pretend this $20B is some result of Obama's leadership is a joke.

Do demonstrate for us what it is Obama did to produce this $20B?

Contrast that to what he should have done in getting the Dutch arms and other foreign assistance on scene within the first couple of weeks rather than two months into the crisis. The Dutch arms could have been on scene within the first week and been deployed within two. Other aid is still sitting on the sideline because the US know what to do with it yet.

The thread I started the other day discussed how the US politicians (state and Fed) wanted to keep the sand barrier construction with US ships and US workers rather than go with foreign aid that had 5 times the capacity to do the job.

Obama has been inept on this and even the left wing screwballs like Olbermann and Mathews are losing the tingle in their pants.

They will see that $20B as a way to help offset some of the economic impact in the region.

They will also see that the $20B does NOTHING to address the flow of oil into the ocean. That it does NOTHING to remove the oil from the ocean. That it does however put a cap (albeit much much much higher cap) on BP's liabilities.

1) My intellect far exceeds yours

2) Everyone knows that $20b is greater than $75m.... that was not the point. The point is this... like you stated... BP was going to fund the clean up. This is simply a face saving gesture for Obama.

3) Those families are STILL in trouble because that $20B still has to be allocated and claims processed. Tell us... which fucked up system should they use for that... BP's? or the US Governments?

4) That $20b does NOTHING to solve the problem of stopping the oil flow or cleaning up the oil from the water. It IS a positive for the families/businesses in the region... but it in no way ends their pain.
