McChrystal

Well practically every military high ranking official that I saw speak on this subject last night, said there were no and, ifs, or buts about it. He had to go. Military protocol cannot be breached.

I think the greater debate is: Were McChrystal's/aides remarks that bad and how close to the truth were they?

Petraeus goes from Iraq to Afghanistan. Kind of like from the oven to the microwave...
I read the Rolling Stones article, and in the context of a biased article in a trashy magazine it wasn't much. If the CIC wasn't so thin-skinned he would have laughed it off.

Was there a policy disagreement?

The msm seems to be in brainwash mode on this. They will say there was no disagreement, and then go on to talk about it.

We're seein history being counterfeited in real time.

This is a tragedy. The Rolling Stones reporter developed a trust among the General and his closest advisers. Men often use off-color remarks among people they trust that they wouldn't if they knew they would be repeated in public, and they were betrayed. Then The Obama uses this to try and convince us what a tough leader he is.

So thin skinned in fact that instead of keeping his comments dignified, he had to come off like an asshole with his "General Stanley McChrystal's scornful remarks about administration officials represent conduct that "undermines the civilian control of the military that is at the core of our democratic system."

What a crock!

What he really meant was "no one disses me".

ID, that's how the military is supposed to work. For a 4-Star to publicly trash the CIC, it is no different than for a Major to publicly trash his commanding Colonel, or a Sergeant to publicly trash his Chief. In those cases, there would be hell to pay, just as there could be for the General.

McChrystal's comments were stupid and out of line. You don't go criticizing your chain of commando to a major media outlet during a time of war, especially when the current state of war is tenuous.

President Obama’s decision to replace Gen. Stanley McChrystal as top commander in Afghanistan demonstrates an effort to reassert authority in one of the highest and most difficult priorities of his presidency.

Well, you know, I wish that someone had talked to me about it. I would have given them a straight answer.

I serve at the pleasure of the president. I came out of retirement to be of assistance. I think the NSC that currently is in operation is a reflection of how he would like us to work, and it's also a reflection of the 21st century challenges that we have to face, which are multiple.

true...his comments weren't that bad, but they could undermine our mission and put lives at risk...it was the only call to make imo
I'm certainly no fan of Obama, or of keeping my mouth shut. But there is a time and place to talk about your CIC. Rolling Stone magazine, during a time of war, isn't it.

But, to be honest, I think this is indicative of a larger issue. Obama is not widely respected by men in uniform, especially the higher echelons.

Are you some high up brass or something?

They were stupid...but WAY overblown! The situation did however serve the president by taking the nations eye off the proverbial dog, otherwise known as his presidency.

McChrystal tendered his resignation and Obama comes out with his unneccesary statement...
