Europe and the rest of the West has had immense gratitude to the US post WW2 for leading the world in what was the greatest wealth creation period this planet has seen.
So much so, that no nation complained that the US got the BULK of that WEALTH and POWER and RICHES.
The trade offs were well understood.
- the US wanted the investments in their Military complex and to become the worlds dominant military and world power and for the others to rely on them
- in return they would buy the mass of their military needs from the US
- they would buy the US dollars as their reserve currency thus giving the US a near endless bank account
