"I've said before that I felt that the middle class tax cuts were being held hostage to the high-end tax cuts," he said. "I think it's tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers, unless the hostage gets harmed. ... In this case, the hostage was the American people. And I was not willing to see them get harmed."

thats really ending partisan politics obama....claiming the gop actually held the "american people" hostage...essentially calling the gop terrorists...yet when obama wanted his h/c it was not hostage taking to negotiate

i don't understand why the gop didn't allow the tax cuts to expire on those making over a million dollars....right now it may look like obama capitulated, but he will come out ahead in this...how can the gop claim to be fiscally conservative, yet agree to extend UB and not raise taxes to cover it....especially on those making over a million dollars which represents, what....less than 1% of the american people

i know some economist think no tax cuts during a recession or an economic recovery...but on a million dollars or more a year?

And how would you characterize the GOP's actions over the weekend?

the typical washington bullshit....you give me what i want and i'll give you waht you want....obama has done it, the dems do it...they all do it...

but now....only now....its hostage taking....do the american people have a "right" to UB benefits? hostage taking is about taking away rights and freedom....obama is essentially saying the gop are terrorists....

do you agree with obama's assessment?

I agree with it, because it's exactly what the GOP was doing over the weekend (and you said basically the same thing above, just with different words), but I don't think Obama should have come out & said it. Presidents should rise above that kind of rhetoric.

Your melodramatic hyperbole of "he's calling them terrorists!" is hilarious, btw.

yeah...hostage takers are never terrorists and no other dem has said the gop is acting like terrorists....yeah...my hyperbole....

“It’s almost like the question of do you negotiate with terrorists.”

tff how onceler never called that out...oh yeah...it was a dem...wonder if he will now

why isn't obama calling the dems hostage takers?

Obama struggles to keep Dems from killing tax cuts

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101207/ap_on_bi_ge/us_tax_cuts

deals been made onceler...both sides get what the want and now the dems are taking the american people hostage....but thats ok.....because its the dems now holding things up....

What issues? Your repeated hackery for continuing to apologize for the GOP?

I mean....the terrorists!

here is post five again ^ and here is my op which you claim is "hackery" and apologizing for the gop:

don't understand why the gop didn't allow the tax cuts to expire on those making over a million dollars....right now it may look like obama capitulated, but he will come out ahead in this...how can the gop claim to be fiscally conservative, yet agree to extend UB and not raise taxes to cover it....especially on those making over a million dollars which represents, what....less than 1% of the american people

i know some economist think no tax cuts during a recession or an economic recovery...but on a million dollars or more a year?

and a few days ago i called them dumb on this issue

now, are you going to debate or are you going to be your usual self and engage in nothing but petulant ad homs and run away from the discussion...while lying about your opponents because you think that is "real debate"

Again...debate what? Your blind adoration of the GOP? Your willingness to compromise all principle in their defense, on a day-to-day basis?

Let me know which aspect of your slavish devotion to the GOP you'd like to engage on, and I'm there....

o i c

me taking the gop on about their defense of tax cuts for the wealthy and calling them dumb on it is apologizing in onceler's world

the dems, ignoring obama's deal and possibly jeapardizing the agreement for UB is not hostage taking because they aren't getting what they want, but when the repubs do it....its hostage taking

what a strange and bizarre world you live in onceler...you can't debate, you can only lie...its weird....because you actually started off the thread ok...with an actual question and then you just changed into your usual hack self

whats up?

Because you're buying into the stupidity of the rhetoric, like the clueless dumbass you are. Those who make over $1 million per year, are the ones who create jobs paying $40k per year. Either you comprehend and understand how the people with high incomes create jobs and economic growth, or you don't. If you do understand this, it doesn't matter if the person in question is making $250k or $1 million, the same fundamental principle applies. If you don't understand, then it makes no difference, we should have raised everyone's taxes. You're the low hanging fruit, Yurt... the fool half-wit the left knows it can eventually sway by repeating the class warfare rhetoric enough... eventually, you are the one who caves, the weak link, the one who says...meh, yeah, I guess we could raise taxes on millionaires... I guess maybe they don't really need all that money... Once you've sold out your principles, what do you have left? You've admitted the left is right, that we should increase taxation on the wealthy.

Do you have proof that all people making over a million create jobs of $40,000 a year? Is that how much they pay their gardeners? cooks? cabana boys? Is this every millionaire? or just some of them? and are they alone responsible or do they combine with other millionaires? and if people who make under a million also use these services, do they help create jobs, or just millionaires?

Rana, people who EARN INCOME in that range, are not "the wealthy!" They may indeed have gardeners and cooks, but it is because they work to earn an INCOME! You hear the word "millionaire" and it immediately conjures up the image of Thurston Howell, as if every "millionaire" is living like that. Those kind of "wealthy" people do not earn an INCOME, they have already earned their incomes, they are WEALTHY now, and no longer have to earn an INCOME!

Many of the ones who fall into the bracket of $1 mil. per year in INCOME, are entrepreneurs who own a small-to-mid-sized business or corporation, and file taxes as an individual. Out of that $1 million, they often have to pay an enormous amount in COST... (you know? The money you have to spend to make money?) No one is knocking down a pure $1 million in profits, except for maybe Bill Gates.

and you haven't shown how a 3% tax increase will change any of that

you are such a partisan hack that all you can do is give me mindless talking points and then call me a liberal because i don't see or agree with ALL your right wing views....as if people who make over a million a year NEVER put any of that money in savings....as if a mere 3% tax increase from the previous year (not really an increase, just back to the prior rate as this was temporary) will cause them to not hire, to not buy....

why is it you can't back up your position that raising taxes on those who make over a million a year will harm the economy?

TFF

onceler runs like the wind when cornered to discuss actual issues and leave the ad homs and his lies aside...

pity, i thought he had more, my bad

I love posts like this.

I asked you specifically what aspects of your right-wing apologism you wanted to discuss, and you didn't say. The offer still stands....

Yea, so was that Fox news contributor I saw as i was flipping channels last night after my sons school Christmas play (which contained refrences to baby Jesus, BTW) and before I went to bed. I thought to myself, what an idiot this guy is. I think it was on the O'Reilly factor and this guy wanted to make a serious point that Amercians should be concerned about the language Obama used. Give me a break. It is how politics works.....or used to, when people from both sides of the aisle compromised to get something done, then talk about the positives and negatives of what was accomplished later. That's all Obama was doing. Should he have used a different metaphor? Probably so, but anyone with half a brain could tell what was going on.
