A true patriot always jumps at the chance to pay higher prices to support American labor, don't they?
So, how many items you've purchased in the past month were made in the good ol' USA?
How many gallons of gas were from our own domestic wells?

Our trade deficit is so severe that just manufacturing for our own needs would mean an increase in production.

Our individual choices are not really the issue here.
with protectionism people would choose to buy american because those items would be cheaper, or the only choice, the same reasons they buy chinese.
No markets are free, they are always sculpted inside a framework of other considerations.
